Title: [DP] Dev Proof ~ Dev Verification Database ~ Seal
Post by: BCTS on July 20, 2014, 05:43:26 PM
Originally we were going to go another way with this but since alot of users have chimed in with their ideas here is where we are heading..

We are creating a front end that will allow users and developers to register.

Devs can choose to be verified by us by providing us with the information needed to make this happen.  The more info provided the more points they are awarded and this will be displayed on the devs profile where they can add a complete bio about themselves and add all the coins that they have authored or helped developed.

Once the Dev is Verified they will get access to an image that they can choose to display via their website or ANN thread.  Users will be able to click this image/seal to verify that this DEV is infact the same dev.

We will develop an API that will allow other sites including exchanges to display this seal via their websites on selected coins.

This website will be 100% free to register @

And I am in talks with an exchange at the moment to use our API

~~~~~~~~
Looking for a few people who can bring something to the project..  We really need php/mysql devs, html/css ninjas, and trusted members to help complete reviews.   If you are interested in helping with this project please let me know.
I see too much "charge" and "donate" and a most wanted list would probably only provide a challenge...
...aaaand now it's self moderated.
Well, I wish you good luck, I really do I just don't see how a self appointed authority figure in a self moderated thread could help.
real simple.. it was a small button listed in additional options..
I did this for one reason... to discourage people from posting hate towards fixing this issue.
will it work? sure a little but most people are still going to moan and groan about not being able to fix this or not wanting it fixed.
Well, first question is... why would any devs trust you with their identity? And then you plan to charge them for this privilege? To be honest, it sounds like you are trying to scam the scammers... and honest coins too.
Although I agree there is way too much scamming and shady devs here, I honestly don't think this is the way to go. First off, there are way too many crazy people in this forum for any dev to feel safe providing their real identity. Sure, I'd prefer they did, but I understand why they'd be hesitant, even if honest. If any group was going to give a seal of approval type of thing, it'd probably need to be done by the exchanges. And for free.
Overall this reads very similar to that shitcoin killing group plan of charging devs to not be put on some shitcoin killing list.
Rather than this type of plan, I'd prefer to see education used. Someone start up a website detailing all the types of scams people run here, past examples of scams, and coins that you currently think are scams/shady. And detail why... no FUD, no guessing, simply outline the problems.
I see your point and I would rather that there is no coin involved at all but to get these people attention I figured a coin was necessary.
Im not looking to make a penny off of this and would be willing to do what ever it takes to just put something in place.
I'm not understanding how this coin differs from an actual scam.
Exactly..  everything is a scam in your eyes because you have been traumatized.
I wouldn't say that. The simple fact is your ann reads like someone wanting to collect coin from other devs to get some seal of approval, by them handing over their identity to you. That reads scammy to most people.
Nevermind that the seal of approval is sort of meaningless, and they have no idea what you will do with their identity. Nor why any dev would feel safe listing their identity here to begin with. This forum has the largest collection of nuts I've run across ... money makes people do stupid things... I understand perfectly why a dev would be hesitant to give any personal info out at all here.
Again, if you have no plans to make money out of this, just start a website.
I will brainstorm on this later when I get home.  I would love to put something together that is more than just a website to catch the attention of more users..  as posted earlier there is already a website that does this but no one has heard of it.   So it has to be more then just a website.
I agree partnering up with an exchange would be idea and I have even thought about starting an exchange that would push this agenda.
How would users accept a new exchange that Promised to do everything it could to prevent scams?  would it be considered a scam? yes at first I believe so.  I would be willing to invest a reasonable of money to make this a reality but would need a couple of good devs to run everything.
Any thoughts would be great.
My thoughts are that this is a scam since you can't explain why it isn't.
LoL what are you talking about? I have nothing set in stone so I cannot defend any of my plans.. this is nothing more then me asking for some like minded people to team up with me and turn something into reality that will not be a scam.
at the moment anything is an option.  But you are free to think what ever you wish..
It's not a bad idea..I think for peeps to sue realnames ir all depends..I don't mind making a coina dn showing my identity but there are many nutzos that go blakcmailing devs and allsorts..there is a big mafia around so it kinda depends but I do love the idea it's quite cute and count me in for blogging, promotion and translation of OP into Chinese please. I like Shopcoin and you are a very respectable DEV. Why not make a monitoring site? That way you can rate and let other peeps rate each coin! Like there are for hyips. I used to run a monitoring site ..that way you can legally receive some bounty for the listing on your monitoring site!..Actually more monitoring e there are for coins, like hyips more easier due diligence can be done by the peeps!. :)..
New exchanges seem to have difficulty catching on, and even if you have the funds to start one, how do you prevent scams exactly? If you offer a coin and a dev vanishes, how can an exchange stop this?
As for websites, coinssource which is in my sig, has a lot of data on coins, which could help people. But a specific site dedicated to scams may be of some use. The problem there is bias. Plenty of people here have made threads listing what they perceive as scam/shit coins. Quite often it boils down to -- scam/shitcoin that thread starter doesn't own = bad. If they own it = good. So if you go the website route, make sure whatever you list is a real scam or overly shady, not some iffy coin that may or may not be a scam.
If you want to start a coin to get people's attention in regard to scams, do the website, and offer a freebie coin given away to people who have been scammed ... ask for proof of ipo fraud/exchanges folding/icos that went bad due to devs vanishing, and that sort of thing. At the least, it may get some attention... tons of people have been scammed here one way or another.
