Title: Help me decide which miner to buy!
Post by: Hazir on July 20, 2014, 05:53:31 PM
I have some cash to invest in scrypt miners and after a bit of reading I found a bunch of companies.
Alpha, Flower Technology and Fibonacci.io are really falling behind and i think don't have a prototype yet.
Then there's KNC and GAW, where we have a well known but troubled company vs a fairly new one that hasn't released their first miner yet.
I'm leaning towards GAW because they promised refunds vs no refunds from KNC and you are getting more MH for the same money.
The only thing that made me consider KNC in the first place was the delivery time, but GAW recently said they will match this. What do you guys think?
And please don't  say things like "mining is dead don't buy miners". I have cheap power and used to GPU mine years ago.
Let's concentrate on the pros and cons of each company and product for now.

tl'dr  Which miners should I buy and which are the best for reasonable cash, on the market now?

Ah, thanks you very much you made my research of good opportunity so much less complicated. I need to go there and what? Read all of this?

I thought people interested in mining hardware don't divide themselves between BTC and Scrypt but are mining fans in general. I'm not going to double the topic there, if any moderator finds it doesn't fit here please move it to the altcoin section.

They separate themselves because they deal with completely different mining technologies.

Promises and delivery dates don't mean a thing to ASIC manufacturers. They can promise the moon but few deliver on those promises. Only order what is available from stock. That is now my motto. You pre order based on a promise of refunds and delivery dates you are taking a big risk.

for Scrypt based mining hardware...... GAWMiners is the only name you need to know.   ;D

From all the companies you named only GAW seems legit, but even so, I wouldn't pre-order a thing from them.
Some might argue that KnC is also good, but honestly, I heard only of 1 good batch they delivered. Rest were either late, very late or came broken.
Others are vaporware.

I am still waiting while considering many options here. GAW sure seems legit but I heard about some deleted post in their official bitcointalk forum thread. I need to investigate this further, because I like total transparency in business.

I heard this too, I also heard that they replaced peoples hardware because their provider gave them the wrong hardware... So they rolled it onto their customers. Not sure how true that is though.

Either way, I am not buying ASIC, to shady and risky for my liking.

Yes they had some problems, one of them being low quality power bricks, but they sent people a new, better ones.
Everybody can make a mistake but you recognize a good company by the way it deals with it. GAW wants to satisfy their clients and you can always expect refunds, promotions, store credit and so on.
They are always here, issuing coupons, updating prices, answering questions on the forum. I haven't seen any other company being as active as they are.

You asked about the deleted posts.  It happened because the thread was meant to be a a place where you can ask others how to connect the wires, run the software and so on, but it turned into a troll paradise with people spamming and burying real conversations in a pile of crap. They decided spending an hour every day going through this spam is not worth it so they just made their own forum and hired people to moderate it.
The moderated thread they had here was recommended by the bitcointalk staff. Although self moderating can be considered shady by some people it's in fact the only way to keep the thread free of spammers and trolls, as moderators rarely ban people.

You should realy consider your purchase, difficulty is quickly rising, and the price of scrypt coins is quite low.
I have some scrypt asics from miner.eu, and they will never ROI, i regret simply not buying the coins i wanted.
Wish u the best tho !

The majority of hardware on the market had efficiency of 25-30 W/MH Vaultbreaker and Titan are rated ~2W/MH, do you think this will become obsolete that fast? There has to be a W/MH limit somewhere just like <4GHz was the limit for a single core cpu for years. I am willing to bet on difficulty not rising so fast that it can still bring me some return. I get the impression that this strong ASIC hardware will be really a milestone.

If GAW CEO keeps his word the Vaultbreaker will beat Titan in efficiency, power, delivery time and price.
Still can't change your mind? They are planing to launch a service called Project Prime, that will probably be an all in one site allowing you to share and trade your hash power.
They are investing and developing while KNC is just trying to earn cash fast.

If Vaultbreaker comes with all the listed specs and shipped before Titan , then it will be great but still its a pre-order and comes with all the risks of any pre-order.

So which are the best in your opinion? Maybe I can find it somewhere. People are selling things all the time after all.

I'm also curious which miner he was referring to.

A2 is the best in terms of hashrate and power consumption, but the price is very high.

Zeus, Gridseed, silverfish are good.

GAW just rebrands Zeus.

KnC...don't do pre-orders dude.

And if you are a newbie in mining, don't buy from these companies' websites, go to ebay or Amazon and buy some used miners. You are fully protected there.

My 0.02 btc:)

Doesn't Bitmain make BTC miners? He was asking about scrypt here.

Thier site looks unfinished and there is not much info for my taste. For sure does not look trustworthy without valid information and somewhat lacking in general plus it seems they don't have it right now.

No Bitmain is not the thing I would like to buy. It seems that they are out of stock too. So after all replies I consider only two real options GAW miners and their Vault Breaker and KNC with Titan.

Whatever you decide, you should get it from GAW, the main reason I bought mine there is because they accept credit cards.
Any company taking only bitcoin or money wire could be scams, you have no way to get a refund.  I am very happy
with my GAW scrypt miners (rebranded Zeus) that I became an affiliate, see my signature link below for a discount.

I guess you are right. Gaw miners are definitely starting to monopolize crypto scene with their hardware. It is hard to find better offer. One thing that bothers me is this thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=710091.0 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=710091.0) It is basically GAW scam accusation...

Latest news: GAW's bought some pretty impressive URL related to bitcoin. Now they are really thinking big. I guess you can't go wrong with them, they are not just some random company.

I would say the best option right now is to investment in GAW miners Hashlets. It is the best option, not much hassle like with physical miner and guaranteed ROI.
