Title: DOTA 2
Post by: leex1528 on July 20, 2014, 09:19:19 PM
Anyone know how big this game is?  I just found out this weekend...

http://www.dota2.com/international/overview/

Over 10 million USD in prizes....including 5 million for 1st place team....

This is insane!  Anyone actually play this, or any good at it?

Ever heard of LoL? (League of Legends) it's quite similar to that game, even thought i like LoL more.

there is something ridiculous like over 100 characters to play with. which is cool, but there is only one map. and the only objective is destroy other teams tower. it's popular, but looks to simple and repetitive for me.

It's never repetitive as you are always playing versus other players and everybody does play different style so it's always an action.

it's repetitive for me. needs more maps and game modes to hold my interest.

Look into League of Legends then :) it has way more modes and more maps.

This topic remind me a Swedish geek song : Basshunter - Dota (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12vh55_1ul8).

i found LoL's pace to be so slow, and the heroes don't seem to require as much skill. even worse, the graphics felt way too cartoony, like some game from the late 90's.

pro players that compete play 40-60 hours a week. you have no chance unless you dedicate that kind of time to it.

Or you just have an talent, i've seen few players that really had it or i don't know where from they did learn that. But yep it also needs practice ofc :)

practice and repetition is required. the pro's get that good cause they play the shit out of it. watched documentary on starcraft players. it becomes their life and career. they win big prizes then retire.

I guess that is pretty sick...As much as I enjoy an occasional video game.  I can get bored with them quite quickly and would rather not spend 40 hours playing them a week.  I use them to relieve stress not to cause stress

The game is probably the best game I have ever played, I have about 600 games on it (550 hours) and I play way too much. The final games are tomorrow (21st) and it is being shown on ESPN2, which is insane. This year the prize pool is larger than the fedex and masters cups, which are the largest golf cups.
