This is clearly not actually from the FBI. The sender is likely impersonating a government official.

We now know that it is justified to make these emails based on the response rate of confusion here. Imagine the average joe rate :S man im in the wrong business lol

I think it is a really great idea, totally open it up and see what is inside - there could be something totally awesome in there...  :P

It's a malware most likely, be careful, don't fall for something like that. FBI doesn't send you an email just like that, especially one with something to download just to be able to view it. 

i wonder what kind of congratulations there are extending. please open it and tell us the exciting news! they don't email just anybody! :P

Look at who sent it. Does it look like agentdave@fbi.com? No, its from some random chinese scammer. Is the FBI in cn?

They used their message scrambler software to make it look like it came from China , so that if you intercepted it you would not find out how to get the Bitcoins !

I don't think they would get over 10 users to be honest. It's a silly attempt and most Bitcoin users are aware of phishing attempts and know that you should never download anything from a unknown source.

It's amazing how many smart people fall for that one (or similar) - the thought of porn and a reasonable explanation for why they are receiving it makes a lot of people lose their wits and run the file. Which should, btw, contain porn so they don't suspect they've been had for some time.

It took me at least a week to figure out where that damn virus came from.

lol... when I first started using the internet, I used to download such files (12-13 years ago). I don't know what happened to the systems in which I used to browse, as they were library desktops, shared by hundreds of people.  ;D

library desktops often are frequently wiped / re-installed.

I think they would get more downloads then that, but most of the downloads would likely be in a VM or other secure environment, preventing the receiver from any kind of theft or damage.

Its somewhat surprising that some of the people here, instead of laughing at this e-mail are warning us that it's fake.

Yeah, I got this off of my spam folder, I was obviously at the very least cautious. And yes, just the one congratulation. Imagine every criminal getting such an email, congratulating them on being arrested :D

I suggest you watch Ashens videos on youtube, he often deals with Chinese toys that have "just the one" sort of words :D

I get a million spam emails every day and sometimes one slips by my spam filter but I can honestly say I've never been fooled. It's just so obvious, and if you're not sure check with the sender!

That FBI mail is fairly obvious lie, but I have seen some really elaborate messages which are hard to classify after a first glance. That is why you must beware and don't open anything suspicious.
