Title: Newbie problem
Post by: OZ_Chris on July 25, 2014, 03:22:40 AM
Hey guys,

I traded with a guy recently here. What I did was, I sent him my product, and he said he will pay me in bitcoins when he receives my product.

He has not been replying my messages after getting my product. What should I do?
I don't want to start accusing him or anything before getting some advice from this community.
Any suggestions?

Should probably write it off as scam.

Please post his alias and leave him negative trust so other know.

This lesson and my experience over the line, do not be too trusting to anyone, because we do not know the person. so this is also for you to experience more cautious in online transactions.

maybe you can wait 24 hours, I do not know if it may be called a scammer :)

I agree, although I do not like the fact that you got scammed, it is simply something that will happen if you do not use escrow. I do not even know how many sticky threads there are that say to use escrow.

Reason why scammer only target new users. Because they never read and have not been scammed yet.

I hope it wasn't  a newbie account.
If yes, leaving negative feedback wouldn't really hurt him.
He could just trash his bitcointalk account and start all over again.

Well someone else would have to, if OP leaves feedback wouldn't it be categorized under "untrusted feedback" since he isn't a senior/hero member?

The OP is def being scammed. You should not agree to receive payment until after the product is delivered, you will not get paid.

Please don't do such things, I think you are cheated.
It is better to do fact to face transaction, or ask an escrow in this forum

It is quite horrible experience , I guess that is your first business also , My products all go by cash terms 1/3 first, ship out 2/3. that is all.

Unfortunately you have been scammed. I suggest that you use escrow in the future to avoid getting in the same position again

I am sorry about that but you have been scammed, and there is very likely you won't see your bitcoin any more.
Learn the lesson and please use escrow next time.

This was a bad idea. You will likely never see the money you are owed.

think before doing something,
how can you trust that person.
I think is very difficult to find that people, if you just know him from this forum

There are probably 15 replies saying that you got scammed. There is a sticky on the marketplace subforum saying that you should use escrow. There is another sticky somewhere else (IDR where) that says if you are dealing with a newbie you are likely either scamming or getting scammed). Long story short, you should never send first when you are dealing with someone who is not a trusted member of the forum.

Yeah, as a newbie myself, I will have to send the money first and get my bitcoins later if I wanna trade with someone.

you should not send first when you are trading with anyone . try to talk with him and check if he is interested he will surely send you the money first . Most important thing is escrow ! use it will save your money and also buyer money and also improve your reputation in market :) as safe transaction .

you are a victim of scammer, before you sent the product, you must take the money first
there is nothing you can do, you lossed your product
it's difficult to track the scammer ...

It is really sad that so many people fail to read the stickies on these forums even though many of them (in big capital letters) say that they are very important. It has been posed several times over the years (and in many stickies) of the importance of escrow and the prevalence of scams here.

I think you should have insisted in payment before sending the goods.Sometimes it is the responsibility of the sender to cover return costs if the receipient does not pay up so you would probably end up paying to have the goods returned in any case. There are a lot of underhanded and dishounourable people out there.
