Old school meet new school: Sony's Walkman ZX1 pushes hi-res audio to mainstream

<< Neil Young isn't the only one pushing high-resolution audio files: Sony's newest $700 Walkman also plays such music and it's reportedly selling well in Japan. There's no timeframe for a U.S. launch although there are ways to buy this Walkman or other similar portable players. >>

i like good sound but i'm sure i will never pay 700$ for a stupid walkman. Who in the world will pay that much if you can't even find music for it to play it. What is so special about it that japan is buying it i don't know. Normal WMA files are good enough for me, while i can notice MP3's bad quality overall.

Lol mate, you pay like over 1 BTC for a walkman?
Not a chance. At first i though someone made this by hand without Sony
like fan made (novelty item) but for a mainstream product?
NOPE

I don't know if this will sell in the consumer target market. We're still in a stage where people listen to YouTube videos and at best stream via those Spotify or Pandora services. I wonder when iTunes will start their High Definition audio initiative, though!

With music so easily accessible on Iphones and on the internet, paying $700 for something like this may not reach too many people. Got to say though that I had a Sony Walkman CD player, and it does bring back memories just seeing the logo.
