Title: At what price are you going to cash out your BTC stash
Post by: thms on July 28, 2014, 10:27:39 PM
2,000? 5,000?

Eventually some people will cash their BTC stash at some point

Minimum 10k per coin

Minimum 10k per coin

Das it mane. Any lower than that and my life will be exactly the same as it is now, just with a little more extra cash. I want a life changing amount of money, other than that is just depressing. Also, I will never cash out 100%, only 50%.

As many afterwards will no doubt state, ideally I wouldn't be cashing out at all.

If I wanted to buy a house and no one was going to take BTC for one then I'll be waiting for the high tens of thousands unless I wanted to live in a caravan, in which case the price right about now will do.

10kish might be where I start selling. As I think 40k is definitely a realistic 5-7 year target, Unless something changes, I would only start selling a small portion at 10k.

I would probably sell a little bit when bitcoin reaches 1200 again. Probably more when it reached 3,500 US.

When the time has come, I won't have to sell my BTC anymore  ;)

That would be great, at a price where I can sell enough Bitcoin that I would not need to sell the rest as the income that was generated from those coins will be worth enough to sustain all my needs and what not.

Pretty much Freedom (Bitcoin) would say Freedom 65 but I think it will be a lot faster than that to retirement  ;D
(That would be 40-50 or so years lol)

That phrase also mostly says that basically Bitcoin will be widely accepted by then and you don't have to sell it for FIAT money anymore, but rather just use it directly.

That's what you meant good point if I can purchase all my goods and services in Bitcoin and enjoy a very high exchange rate then there would be no need to be reliant on traditional financial services to handle your transactions.

Xapo debit cards etc if you need to use fiat for any reason
QR sends with your smartphone basically a completely interchangeable medium of exchange.

I still like the term Freedom BTC though ^_^

Impossible to say. It all depends on factors that are impossible to foretell as of this moment. If the price drops again and hovers in lower ranges, I may accumulate quite a bit more BTC more quickly. With a larger stash, that would change things. Or the price might crash hard, convincing me to cash out at $50.

Also depends on the performance of other investments I hold.

Adoption rates are also a big part of the equation. Ideally, as has been pointed out, I would never cash out, but rather I would spend bitcoin in retirement based on a favorable exchange rate. If BTC is, as is possible, less subject to devaluation than fiat, why would one ever cash out to fiat and watch purchasing power decline?

I suggest everyone simply decide on what percentage of their wealth they'd like to keep in Bitcoin.  When your Bitcoin wealth, in USD terms, exceeds this percentage of your wealth, sell some to bring it in line.  You will thus be placing limit sell orders on the way up.  This way, if Bitcoin ever drops to $0 spontaneously, you will keep the amount you cashed out on the way up.  This scenario is extremely unlikely to occur.  But it's always best to diversify.

$10,000 Minimum. Any less and it's not worth it for me. At a price around $5000, I will sell a very small(1%) portion of my investment to cover initial costs. The rest I will sell for $10,000 per coin at the least, or nothing at all. To me the opportunity cost of not investing in Bitcoin for big returns is worth less than the costs of losing my investment entirely.

I won't sell ever my btc to FIAT but I'll start buying some stuff when the value will reach a stability, probably when adoption will be completed.

Cash out completely? Probably never. But I will sell half around $2000, and buy them back when it drops back down to $1500.

Why cash out at all? If bitcoin is successful you can buy everything with bitcoin. Who needs fiat then?

Bitcoin is better money than fiat. Why exchange good money for bad?

Some people still do not seem to understand what bitcoin is. It's the end of money as we know it (fiat).

ya.ya.yo!

That's the right answer. If it is successfull, we don't need to trade it for FIAT anymore! We can buy our things we want to buy directly with bitcoin. It is indended to be a currency, after all!

Reasonable selling price for me will be around 2k$ after that if price stabilize on this i will sell 20-30% of my monthly income every time after that.

Think that around 2k$ is reasonable price at least for me for other can be 100K if the want.

Some @ 10k, some at 100k, and none after that. Might do some direct trades for other assets but most likely I'm good after that. Barring disaster of course.

I would probably cash out/spend my money if it hit 1000, and keep the other half in cold storage for a very long time, to see how much that increases. Currently I try not to spend my BTC, because I feel that it will be worth a lot in the future, and instead of buying that 1 GPU, in the future I could by 10 of the same GPU with the same amount of bitcoin. I get a sinking feeling when I spend my bitcoin, because it was worth twice as much a while ago.

I think i'll never cash out ALL my Bitcoins since i believe Bitcoin is like the internet on 1980s.
But once it reach 2000$, 5000$, or 10000$ i'll sell some to have fun :D

I hope it hits 1,000,000$, then I will be rich, but the problem is is getting it back to fiat. Of course I will be able to spend it which is nice, but bitcoin might not be able to be used on insurance or homes or cars by the time it hits 1,000,000$, but that far in the future, anythings possible.

I only intend to use BTC for purchasing goods and services and not bring them to exchanges. Already we can fly around, buy Hotels, and a number of other goods we want or need.

Instead of dumping your BTC at a certain price, why not at a certain price snap book 2 vacations and buy some new computers and monitors from Dell or Overstock, tigerdirect, newegg etc. You still get what you want largely, unless you need something you cant specifically buy with Bitcoin. This way possibly the value of the coin does not go down as quickly causing more speculation.

Granted I know you can get more coins if you buy in and get out at the right price points. Rinse repeat, but for those who just want to hodl and not worry about hitting the highs and lows.

Title: Re: At what price are you going to cash out your BTC stash
Post by: BuildTheFuture on July 31, 2014, 03:48:52 AM
Since Overstock is currently the only known major company not converting 100% of BTC sales to fiat, you should assume that anything you purchase with BTC anywhere else will result in those coins getting dumped either onto Bitstamp or sold via Coinbase's internal market (thereby preventing some random BTC buyers from having their orders make it to an exchange). In fact a lot of old BTC holders buying stuff on Expedia and Dell are probably responsible in large part for the recent BTC price downturn.

You think making money is that easy? At $2500 you would sell in an instant, or keep it until it drops. Kind of like gambling.

Hell no.

When it reaches 1.2K again, it will on the raise. Climbing stairs two at a time and eventually even faster. I would not sell at that price.

And when I decide to sell, it won't be all at once. If you don't believe BTC can rise again, maybe you should get out now.

I would wake up see what made it get to that price then make my decision  ;)
But since it would be a nice sudden rush I might sell because of a possible downward adjustment

Still some of that stash is committed stash stuff that's in a bet or something of the sort so wouldn't cash it all out haha.

Someone was mentioning on another thread how all of these people who used to post years ago still hardly have any bitcoins.

That is because they said things like "I'll cash it all out when it hits $30!"

So now they sit here having cashed out when they made some money. Maybe paid off a credit card or two.

I never understand these threads...what am I supposed to cash out to?

Interesting most will sell on that price, some will hold some will panic.

All this is normal if u think that price can rise up u will hold otherwise it will be selling time that can be influence on price drop.

All you get by selling is an immediate tax burden.  I will rid myself of my BTC when I find something I want to buy with them, never sooner.
