Title: Bitmain Antminer S1 Miner Questions
Post by: smcorp on July 29, 2014, 05:30:24 PM
So I'm looking at getting two Antminer S1s. I've done some bitcoin and litecoin trading for fun with friends, but now I'd like to try mining. I found a guy selling a couple S1s for $175 including a PS. I also do not pay for electricity where I live. Are these a good investment that could pay for themselves in several months and then start making a little bit of money?

Thanks...

with free power they could be okay.  I have seen lower prices.  if you have a decent psu (at no cost)

they would earn back close to 1 btc  that is about 590 usd.  at the current price take off the 350 you paid you could make about   200-250 bucks by the end of winter.

Would it be better to mine lite or doge? Or other alt coins?

Any recommendations for SHA256 coins that are better than bitcoin?

No Sha256 coin is better than Bitcoin for stability or profitability.
There are some new alt coins with Sha256 algorithm which sometimes earns higher than bitcoin.
But the stability of that and the exchange rates are not as liquid as bitcoin.
You may see it more profitable than bitcoin when you mine  but when you get that to echange after confirmation blocks the price may already gone low.
So for a stable and plug and play mining, bitcoin mining itself is the most recommended option.

I am currently mining peercoin and bitcoin.  perhaps gamble on some peercoin mining, however BTC has proven to be able to weather storms.
