Title: ORA:: Bounty discussion thread
Post by: Kora on July 31, 2014, 03:53:34 AM
ORA threads
main thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=620518.0)
dev discussion (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=675484.0)
logo discussion (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=697958.0)
bounty discussion (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=718077.0)
CryptoFest (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=801933.0)

Welcome to the ORA bounty discussion thread!
By design we have left a large proportion of ORA assets/coins in trust for later distribution as bounties.

The ORA distribution is as follows:
50% - distributed equally to ~3000 webapp registration applicants (still to decide how to distribute left over stakes)
5% - goes to the registration webapp dev
5% - goes to the dev who clones Qora, and creates the ORA wallet applications
2% - ORA founder
8% - goes to node bot bounties
4% - website & marketing
1% - Qora dev
25% - POWER BOUNTIES

That means at least ~37% of ALL ORA will be paid to active community members as bounties for doing all the necessary tasks required to give ORA the best chance of being successful in the medium-long term.

We will use this thread to discuss how we will do this!

My goal is to create a 'process' that is open & transparent, and maybe we can use community discussion to  nominate potential bounty candidates, and then we can use the NXT voting system to decide who gets what bounty payments, and for what tasks.

Another option would be to form a committee of 4-5 people who could decide the details after eligible candidates had been nominated by the community.

There are many options to consider, and this thread is a good place to explore them. If you have any ideas please feel free to make them here!

How we distribute the bounties is a crucial task for the ORA community, and while I suspect it wont be easy, how successful we are at doing it will go a long way in determining how successful the ORA project as a whole ends up being!

Good luck to all of us :)

Thanks for starting this Kora.

There are a total of 37% of total coins allocated for bounties.

First, lets discuss on the 25% power bounties. First map the categories and sub categories.that fits into power bounty. Then we will decide on allocation and distribution method.

Edit (7-Aug-14) : i have merged the original web and marketing bounty with power bounty for easy & simple fund management. The whole bounty war chest is now holding 29% of total allocation = 290 mil coins.

I will also reserve space in this post for updates and announcements when needed.

1. Promotional & Marketing Bounty
1.1 Social Media Networking. This shall include swarms, facebook, twitter etc.
1.2 Advertisements / promotion works
1.3 Ora Logo Designing
1.4 Branding / Other Graphic Materials / Infographics.

2. Technical Bounty
2.1 Mobile wallet - iphone, android
2.2 Faucet
2.3. Infrastructures
2.4 Dev projects
2.5 Website (Official)
2.6 Wiki
2.7 Translation

3. Contributors Bounty* to be discussed at later point.

4. Others* to be discussed at later point.

5. Charity charity allocation will be allocated in the remaining stakes

Edit 7-Aug-14 : i have moved marketing bounty and promotion bounty into 1 category named Promotional & Marketing Bounty. Website, wiki and translation is now under Technical Bounty. Also added a new category named Others for just in case.

We should try and get QORA dev on board imo. He has no investment in QORA and is in desperate need for a wide-reaching community to support his work and effort.

Combine the 2 and this shit goes to the moon.

Wow, that's a really good post and idea. This is a really good way to distribute stake and should solve a lot of the problems mentioned in the post.

Incentives are key and I think you guys might have nailed it here.

I would like to ask everyones opinion on first, merge the website & marketing bounty with the power bounty for now. My idea ia to allocate a certain amount from the bounty war chest. Maybe 10 mil for a start. Once the 10 mil is consumed, then we top up the another few mil. Also The bounties should be allocated accordingly to the below categories. You guys too pls suggest what else needed to be added. Lets have a overview of everything.

Promotion bounty
1. Social media interaction. This shall include swarms, facebook, twitter, website etc promotion.

Technica bounty
1. Mobile wallet - iphone, android
2. Infrastructures
3. Dev projects

Marketing
1.advertisements

Contributors bounty

@DarkhorseofNxt
I like to idea of splitting it up in in chunks. Makes it easier to focus on specific areas.

For the technial bounties it'd be good to specify faucet development.
For promotional work we can add translations.
We can also add wiki creation and updates, perhaps under promotional work as well?
Also let's specify logo creation under marketing?

@ Mac Red, thank you for reminding the wiki creation, translation and faucet. Totally forgot about that.

I included Other graphics into branding or facelift.

I am also thinking of a standard format of bounty approval for all future bounty release. A simple format. I am keeping a book on what is being spent on what. So all this will go into there. Proof of expenditure.

Under construction. I will include a FAQ or wiki and perhaps a news section for important updates.
We also need to finalise a logo choice.

I also like the idea of splitting it into chunks. Its better to a have a reserve for future unforeseen bounties, for instance if bts option is taken up bringing in new devs with nio.

Awesome. I guess some kind of deadline for the logo would be good. For example, X more weeks until we all vote to decide how we'd like it to look like. At the same time, we need to wait for the NXT voting system if we want to do it over there. Thoughts?

Yeah. its better to wait for NXT voting. Much cleaner and less open to abuse. There is also a few asking for a vote on the name. I thought ORA is set at this stage since the assets are released already

I think so we need to wait for the nxt voting. Also it gives some time for more logo ideas. We are seeing some real good designs coming in. Hoping more improvements. There are many, but still i cant tell myself, THIS is that logo.

Vote on the name? That has past. No more going back there.

Welcome to my ORA 'Tip' List!   ;D

1 Million ORA 'tip' to fragORA for:
- showing sincere enthusiasm &  early support for (K)ORA
- agreeing to be a 'community treasurer' for ORA
- for setting up a website to help with 'communications'

Similar to the logo we'll decide what we want once the NXT voting is live.

Very nice to have the links at the top of the OP btw.

I would also like to suggest some amount to assigned to charity organisations. Just my thought.

I agree with donation but we need to do it in an organized manner. I've seen a lot of discussion in other coin on this matter (NEM, Koi, etc) and it did cause quite a bit of friction. There's a few thing to consider:

1 - Most (to not say All) of the charity administrator doesn't know how to use cryptocurrency.
2 - If they do, they will most likely dump everything once they receive the donation.
3 - It will be hard to get consensus on which charities will deserve some ORA.

I would suggest that we create an ORA fund that could see to the best interest of ORA. One of the responsibility of the fund would be to handle donation, sell them when the price is high and when it would hurt the coin, and give the FIAT to the chosen charities.

Anyway, this is just my two cents!

Exactly what we should be doing. Will keep that in mind. Right now i want to take everything into consideration so that we do not miss out anything.

Would you like to help me in charting this out on how we can do this properly?

Most likely yes. At this stage we are taking account on what needed to be spend. We will decide on the allocation later on. So tell me, what category does this will fit in? Blog Promotions / web promotions? We will make sure to utilise every sort of promotion available. Thanks for bringing this up. Need all the help!

I'm not the person with the most experience in this sort of thing, but sure, I would be glad to help. I'll wait until we "finalize" the bounty list to ensure we cover everything but meanwhile if anybody have any suggestion on this regards, don't hesitate to post them here or to PM me.

Looks like anyone who has the inclination to contribute has a good chance of having it pay off well in the future when ORA begins to take shape. I like the incentives. Best of luck :)

The NXT discussion should take place in some other thread. In short IMO, NXT is pretty good.
Now to the main issue – Ora is an asset just so people can trade in and out of it. At some point in the future it will become a true coin and will no longer live on the NXT exchange.

I think it is hard to say whether nxt is good or bad, opinions might be biassed by people owning nxt or not. Just lean back and think: Nxt seems to be found good enough by the founders of ORA to use it as a platform for distribution of the ORA stakes. I have definitely my own opinion about nxt: I feel very positive of nxt: but will that help you getting convinced?

Good answer nikola384! The ORA asset on the NXT asset exchange is a temporary means to an end. The end we are shooting for is our own P2P network & coin. IMO NXT is a great platform, and features like the voting system make it extremely useful for decentralised decision making, but our goal is to bootstrap our own platform.

NXT is good. Nothing wrong with NXT. You probably hear so much FUD because people are fearful of new technology and are mad that they missed out.

I have said before, Nxt is an ecology. The only fud that anti-nxt will be talking about is how the initial stake was given to the 73 stake holders. I dont understand this fud when the ipo was open for 2 months.

I have said before, Nxt is an ecology. The only fud that anti-nxt will be talking about is how the initial stake was given to the 73 stake holders. I dont understand this fud when the ipo was open for 2 months.

Hmm...I see. It happens in the "real world" too. Some take the risk and win (or lose) and some just don't and laugh at the unfortunate or mourn at the successful. Thanks for your answer.

What still makes me feel a little awkward...ORA is not a coin, but an asset, as I have understood. And it's issued at the nxt platform. I've read a lot of what seems to be fud about nxt. Would someone please explain to me why or why not nxt is good or bad? I want to make sure of this before stepping a bit more here.

The NXT discussion should take place in some other thread. In short IMO, NXT is pretty good.
Now to the main issue – Ora is an asset just so people can trade in and out of it. At some point in the future it will become a true coin and will no longer live on the NXT exchange.

Great day i'm catching on! I hope every ORA goal is fulfilled. Watching the charts, there are not many people selling, so there are a lot of people who believe in this system. I read that ORA's attempt is to learn from every platform already in existence to make a whole new one , but better. At this early point of development, is somebody connected to someone who can , in the future, issue assets in the ORA ecosystem in a similar way as jl777 (at nxt) did with all of his portfolio? I think this would be very positive to ORA, having powerful potential investors interested with it.
Since i've noticed i'm posting in the bounty thread (i'm sorry for that, for further questions i'll make sure to post in the right one), a small % of the "power bounties" can be assigned to this task, maybe.

I am changing the bounty allocation categories today after going through the list so far to get a clean list. Please have a look at post #2 in this thread for more information. These are not final but open for discussions.

Looks good, easier for everyone to get an overview of what we need. 8)

I know this is very early to suggest this, but it came into my mind. Can we form a group of people interested in making a research or analysis on how anyone in the world could convert fiat into any crypto/ora? Not talking about exchanges but other getaways and options. Prepaid cards, atm cards etc. Probably we can study and build a road map on this. This will not only benefit ora but also any other crypto. Not only talking about us or europe but how a person from any part of world can get an access into crypto world. What you guys think?

I'm interested in this. I'm working on Bitmark (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=660544) right now but we're very interested in making it an easy to use currency. So that type of real life purchase case research is of great interest to our project and perhaps we can share things we learn about this type of thing.

I'm in Asia and there are tons and tons of prepaid cards for all kinds of products. Being able to buy a prepaid card that can get you crypto would be amazing and be a huge step for adoption!

Exactly. This can be a stepping stone for every existing coin. It should be a paper of analysis on what available method is available in every part of the world and also an analysis and suggestion the best way to do it.

Proposal for Charities

I've been asked to come with a proposal on how to handle Charities. I didn't revive any suggestion by PM aside from the one from DarkhorseofNxt, so fell free to give me comment/suggestion.

We want to handle the donation to Charities with theses 3 concepts in mind:

- Transparency : Everything will be decided by the community and all action will be communicated to everyone
- Security : We want to ensure the ORA for charities will be safe
- Sustainability : Giving to charities should not result in a massive dump that could hurt ORA

So here's the proposal so far:

Selection
- We ask the stakeholders to propose charities to which they would like to Donate.
- Since we have a potentially a lot of ORA stakes, we could divide it between multiples charities (to be determine once the amount of ORA given to charities will be known)
- The selection would be done by a vote amongst original shareholder (because we know who they are) or on ORA if it include a voting mechanism.
- The selection would be composed of X charities and this process would be repeated every Y months. I suggest 3 charities every 6 months.

Donation
- The initial donation will come from a percentage of the undistributed stakes.
- We will use multising option to ensure no single person could get access to the Charities fund.

Distribution
- We wait at least 3 months after the release of the coin to start cashing out the stake
- The Maximum ORA per sold per day from the charity fund would be at maximum equal to 10% of the daily average of the last 2 weeks
- The orders would be set at a fix price so it doesn't crash the market.
- This would be done on multiple exchange.
- Charities will receive their donation in FIAT.

Again, this is only a proposition so if you have any comments/suggestion, fell free to post them here or to PM me.

I'd like to suggest for all Ora distribution, that you factor in time. Do not set amounts of Ora rather set percentages. So if 25% of all Ora is in an account for power bounties, then each power bounty should be a fixed agreed percentage of the current total account balance. Say 1% of the account balance at that time, then over time each bounty is smaller, and more aligned with distribution and adoption. It will also ensure that it's a very long time before your bounties run out, ensuring long term development with fair remuneration.
