Title: [WTB] Dead Radeon 280x/290/290x cards
Post by: KuDoZ83 on July 31, 2014, 06:13:39 AM
Hey all,  I'm looking for dead 280x, 290 or 290x, preferably just blown caps but will consider other issues.

Not planning on using for mining, just tinkering and building up a dual/tri/quad crossfire rig.

Located in Brisbane, Australia.

Let me know what you have and preferably a picture of the damaged area and a price / postage.

Cheers,
Scott

Dead cards? Why you need dead cards? As i know most of the video cards hard to repair even a little problem.

I've repaired all kinds of cards... Anything in the 7000 series or R9 series are almost impossible. It is my opinion that these cards have to be professionally IR soldered for most repairs of the BGA. Now surface mount chips may be doable.

Not saying don't try... :)... just saying I haven't had luck.

What if you get the GPU card from it and add it to an other IC?

I'm saying that i have had no luck with reflowing these cards. Even cards that are only artifacting. Reballing the bga is probably your best bet but I don't have the setup for that.

They're pretty damn difficult to repair, yeah, but I like a challenge. When it's just something like the VRMS, they don't appear TOO hard to detach with a heat gun and the right solder tip.

Fixed a 5770 two years ago by reflowing it in the oven and replacing capacitor. Have a 290 at the moment that I bought for $40 with a blown VRM, just waiting on a few VRMs being sent from DigiKey in the US to try and replace it *fingers crossed*
