Title: Bitcoin Core not displaying transaction
Post by: Japo on August 04, 2014, 03:15:09 AM
I'm knew to this. I bought a token amount about two hours ago, 13 confirmations, yet Bitcoin Core software is showing nothing in wallet and nothing in 'recent transactions'. Do I have to wait for the whole damn blockchain - 20GB of it - to download simply to see if I've got a few Bitcoins? It seems totally absurd to me. Is there a way to ditch Bitcoin Core and transfer my current transaction to something a bit more user-friendly... online maybe?

Yes you have to wait until all blockchain download because as this reaches latest block then you can watch your payment

You can use blockchain.info or a client like Electrum that doesn't download the blockchain.

faiza wants ban. :)

You can also use Multibit, it's lightweight client.

He doesn't need the blockchain. He just needs the privkey of the pubkey which received the bitcoin, so he needs instructions either to dump his privkeys or convert wallet.dat into something usable by a light client (or maybe some natively can, now, but I'm unaware of them).

There are two methods I know of to do this:
1) Use Core command line to export privkeys. http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/5324/how-do-i-import-private-keys-from-bitcoin-qt-to-multibit-client

2) Use pywallet to extract the privkeys. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=34028.0

#1 includes a method to import the privkeys into MultiBit.

Yes, and he wants to know if there's a way of getting his coins without having to wait to download the entire blockchain and if he can do that online, both of which I gave suggestions on. Take time to read posts before you go blazing in trying to reply because you do this often.

I actually found the most simple and effective way in another post in the link you gave - drag n drop the wallet.dat file
https://blockchain.info/wallet/import-wallet.

Thank you
