Title: Best Bitcoin Wallet
Post by: bitjay77 on August 04, 2014, 05:04:16 PM
Hello, I am fairly new here and was wondering what the best wallet would be for having my bitcoins.

I have read a bit about blockchain.info and from what I understand it seems to be the most popular one.

There was some talk about coinbase also, but there shouldn't be too many coins left inside in case they get seized.

Can someone provide me some insight on this whole thing. I would use my wallet to send coins to friends and family from time to time and keep my wallet in an offline computer. What risks do I have of my wallet getting hacked and my coins taken away. Thank you for your time. Cheers.

Wrong place to post this, can one of the moderators please move this to the newbie section?

This area is only for Press articles. Sorry.

I personally prefer Bitcoin-Qt, the original wallet, as it's self-contained and you remain in full control of your bitcoins. With web wallets like Coinbase, a third party (the web wallet) controls your private keys, which is potentially less secure.

If you're looking for a web wallet, Blockchain.info is indeed the most popular, but if you have the disk space I highly recommend Bitcoin-Qt. You may also want to take a look at Bitcoin.org's "Choose your Wallet" page (https://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet), which has a considerable amount of useful information on the various advantages and disadvantages of the most popular wallets.

I recommend to use BlockChain (https://blockchain.info/)
The interface is simple & safe so i enjoy using this wallet

you may also give a try to Multibit and Electrum, you don't have to download blockchain if you use these wallets.

I would say bitcoin-qt is probably the best for a newbie at least; to get familiar with how bitcoin works. it's simple and clear to use.

I personally use Armory but wouldn't recommend it until you are more experienced.

As has been said, blockchain.info is an online wallet. I would never trust my bitcoins to one of those.

Like I've said before, blockchain.info is the best I've tried so far.

Even if anything would happen to the site, all your info is safe in your email address and you will be able to access the wallet with other wallets afterwards. :)

The blockchain is getting pretty big.  I would take consideration on client without it depending on what your doing.

If you look at different clients you will find one fit to your needs.  Just be careful with the wallet file.

If you have or intend to have a lot of BTC then check out the Trezor hardware wallet, $119.

qt is secure enough, but electrum is better but also more complicated, don't know much about armory, but it appears as a thing between the two
