Title: Anybody here use Intrade?
Post by: RodeoX on May 04, 2011, 08:24:31 PM
Those of you who are economy geeks might like InTrade. It is a "prediction market". Sort of a stock market for buying contracts that predict future events. For example, you could have paid a small amount to buy a contract stating that Osama Bin Laden would be captured or killed this month. If you had the contract would mature to it's total value and you keep the profit.

Check it out. I am known there as "War Prophet".

A few years back, I spent quite some time on intrade.com-
I remember that Osama one has been there for ages;

Their interface has changed alot..

We should find an interesting bitcoin contract to add !

Sounds more like a betting website than anything else.

Nothing wrong with that though, sounds like fun.  I might check it out when I actually have something to work with.  :P

That's basicly right. There is some skill involved however. I remember the CIA was interested in a prediction market at one point. They wanted to crowdsource the chances of events like revolutions.
Maybe I should talk to someone there about trading in bitcoin?

Never used intrade, I used the site that they grew out of, TradeSports, before TradeSports decided that processing deposits and withdrawals to the US was too hard.

IMO, 0-100 is the best odds-stating method out there: it's decimalized, completely unambiguous (other decimal methods are inconsistent as to whether the odds include return of stake or not), and easily translatable to other formats.
