If you guys do, and wish to play with fellow bitcointalk members. Just put your LoL usernames below, and add each other!

Isn't it child game?

No, it's not, it's an professional e-sport played by many adults all over the world, with over $1 Million in prizes.

I don't like LoL myself as I am more of a Dota2 player but is is not really game for children. While it may appear so judging by their art style at least... if you want better game of the moba genre go play Dota 2 or Smite.

i like LoL better than DOTA cause it's gives players more customization with runes and masteries. it also has four maps vs DOTA one map.

I preferr LoL over Smite, Smite is interesting but there isn't enough people for example where you meet someone somewhere and you end up playing LoL together

that doesn't happen with Smite  :-\

I like League of Legends better than Dota 2 (don't kill me), but LoL is still copied from D2. Although it's undergone many changes and is no longer what it was, it still originally started as a copy.

Except League of Legends came out before Dota 2. League was copied from Dota (on Warcraft 3). Honestly, the game play style between the two are totally different.

Lol... I thought it was the other way around. I just checked wikipedia, you're so right.
But the prize money for Dota 2 is more than league, lol.
I'll stick to League, it's way better than D2.

Well, I was playing League back when Dota 2 was still in Beta, so I knew I was right without even having to look it up. I believe Dota's prize money was crowd funded rather than coming from anyone directly. League's community is absolute fucking shit imho, so D2 has them there. League is just a better game imho.

Yeah, League is full of trolls and toxic players. In my opinion, a sort of trust list like the one on Bitcointalk should be created, so that the community can flag players as pieces of crap and prevent them being matchmaked with them.

Question:

I was always under the impression LoL was a lot more like WoW, where you get 1 character and build them up for quite awhile?

Dota 2 is games that last roughly an  hour and you build your hero up...but then he goes back to level 1 when you start a new game?

Is this not true?

Uh... No, LoL and Dota 2 are very similar.

Basically, as far as LoL goes, (I'm not sure with Dota 2), you select a "character" (champion). Each of these are unique and have different abilities. In LoL, there are free ones that rotate every week, and you can buy more with real money or with points gained from playing. In Dota 2, I believe, all of them are free.

Then, you are thrown into a battlefield of 5v5 or 3v3, where you have to fight with your team (all humans) against the other (humans too).
The aim is to destroy the enemy "base", but it's a complicated game and it can't be explained in words at all.

Seems pretty similiar...

In Dota you get only 5v5 (I think, still new)

You go around killing some animals and crap and leveling up, while trying to kill the other teams characters and then destroying their base in the end

It isn't a complicated game at all, it's an RPG with some RTS elements mixed in and some uncontrollable NPC allies that move along a pre-designated path towards the enemy base.

Yep. But you have to learn the abilities of each champion, its counters, and learn to play some champions properly, and play a main lane (< or not). Also, you have to learn the item builds too. So... it isn't that easy.

On the surface it seems simple, but it is actually very complicated when you combine all the factors that go into winning a match. Runes, masteries, champions, summoner abilities, starting items, item builds, lane matchups and counters, team fights, ward control, dragon/baron objectives with timing/defense, taking down towers, ganks, jungle timers and ganking paths, ability combo's, roaming, farming cs vs kills vs defending objectives etc etc etc.

When discussing RTS' and RPG's I always like to refer people to this diagram I found which perfectly explains how I view these types of games.

http://thefuntimesguide.com/images/blogs/rockpaperscissors.jpg

The system itself is NOT complicated, developers have just made it so complicated they don't know how to balance it and never will, why do you think they come out with patches so often? If these games were balanced they wouldn't need to patch them constantly. RTS' and RPG's are just essentially a complicated game of rock/paper/scissors, which is why I don't like them, want to prove me wrong? Use mathematics, instead of foaming at the mouth like everyone I've talked to about this does who defends these games.

This is why modern FPS games feel so borked as well at times, it's because the developers have gone and made the damage systems etc. extremely complicated, this isn't much of an issue in singleplayer or co-op as you're just up against NPCs but it's a major one when you're playing a multiplayer game and want all players to be equal and for it to all be about skill.

After reading this whole thread I must say that majority of you does not know what are you talking about! You don't know which game is copy of which. Which game was first, which has the biggest prize pool on tournaments etc. While it is fine and I have no problem with that. But when you are not sure just don't spout nonsense.

Then why did you not play and win the championship if it is that easy? It is easy to play indeed, but mastering LoL is hard. Dota 2 on the other hand is harder overall. I have played LoL in the past and have over 3k games on 2 accounts I believe. I also did ranked this year a bit (after reinstalling it) and was in Silver 1 (hard to get past by if you constantly lose due to bad players/trolls).
Currently I'm playing Hearthstone although even that game isn't that fair, due to cards.

try garen and build regen,  did 14/0/6.

Nope, I have no clue, but I prefer League over Dota, and that's what I care about. What I don't like from League is its separate servers, since I travel frequently, and I have to have accounts on various servers.

This post is useless, you have not even tried to state why I might be wrong.
While the best garen player according to this ranking does not cover Elise (http://www.solomid.net/guide/view/43750-garen-build-guide-fighter-by-marinerevenge), the 2nd guide here clearly states that it is a hard match up: http://www.solomid.net/guide/view/36306-garen-build-guide-fighter-by-king-kroanin.
There is a lot more info related to the TOP lane which can easily be found by doing some simple searching on Google. You might have not encountered a decent Elise player, she literally destroy you on that lane.

Actually, from my own personal experience, you also get destroyed if you encounter a teemo. All you have to do is start spinning, and all teemo needs to do is fire autoattacks and Blinding Darts as you while he walks backwards with his W.

I used to play LoL, I started playing LoL coming from DotA Allstars in Warcraft 3. i played LoL for about 6 months, got bored because i realized runes were pay to win and switched over to DotA 2.

Another criticism i have of LoL is that riot are terrible at balancing, when a new hero comes out (that you have to grind up IP or pay for which is stupid) they are terribly imba for 1-3 weeks before riot nerf that champ to all hell.

LoL is pay to win, DotA is pay to look pretty.
Icefrog sucks at balance but not as badly is Riot

Yeah, every time a new champ comes out it is OP. Always.
But it isn't pay-to-win. You can't buy runes with RP, and Runes don't have that much of an impact anyway. You also can't buy IP directly.

Like I said, there are people which are acting like they know what they are talking about. It's like that on almost every subjects on forums online. The game is anything but easy. You are actually very right, the are of high importance among the top ranked teams and individuals.
If they aren't that important take AP runes and masteries and go play an AD champion. Have fun.
