appoints Tom Wheeler, a lobbyist for for cable and wireless industries, as the head of the FCC.

there are usually two sides to the story, and i think a lot of people here hate obama for political reasons.. but i strongly doubt there's another justifiable side to the story on this case.

He was appointed by President Obama and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in November 2013. Prior to working at the FCC, Wheeler worked as a venture capitalist and lobbyist for the cable and wireless industry, with positions including President of the National Cable Television Association (NCTA) and CEO of the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet Association (CTIA).

Regulatory capture is the curse of our age.  We have state institutions that are more powerful than ever.  Their brief is to protect the public.  But they are run by the very people who are abusing the public.

So anyone take seriously what politics say?

They are the most sucessful in the art of lying and manipulating.

Watch his acts and his connections, not what he says.

The internet is in a way centralized, as nearly all of the communications go through the united states - or you could say, most of the communications go through europe.
Eitherway see on map http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a4/Slides-nsa-prism03a-straight.jpg (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/a/a4/Slides-nsa-prism03a-straight.jpg)
Of course there are city-wide darknets, but in general one could say it's geographically centralized.

What if China eats the US?  Om nom nom.  If China can't get it's US debt back it will just buy out the US (and buy out the politicians).

The problems is the US thinks it can control servers all around the world (see DOJ vs MSFT on email requisitions).  This is the last frontier for US to police.
