Title: Turning Bitcoin.org Into a Wiki
Post by: kiba on August 06, 2010, 04:46:51 PM
I suggest that the bitcoin.org main site to be turned into a wiki? I believe there are several good reasons for it.

1. No more reliance on Satoshi on maintaining the site. Now the community can maintain it.

2. People can start immediately translating bitcoin.org into their own native languages.

3. General more likelihood of information being up to date.

The site is already a wiki, isn't it? Homepage is not editable and that's a good protection from vandals.

I am under the impression that only the documentation page is a wiki.

I like the way it is currently. Satoshi is the best leader currently and as far as I'm concerned he's the benevolent dictator for life (http://en.citizendium.org/wiki/Benevolent_Dictator_for_Life) over the whole movement, not just the Bitcoin implementation. In any case, it's not like wiki's don't have administrators who make the policies which shape the wiki. If a vastly more capable leader comes around, it'll be evident and people will follow him or her.

I kind of like the idea. The faq and the translations could be easier kept up to date, and we wouldn't need a separate wiki and cms. You could use the same user account for the wiki and the forum. My only objection is that wikis don't look as good and are more difficult to navigate than pages created with a cms (Drupal).

It's quite a job trying to choose a good combination of forums, wikis, cms'es and and project management tools. Maybe mediawiki+smf+trac?
