Think peer to peer eBay. No fees, no middlemen, no BS rules, no central point of failure.

Silk Road v3.0?

lol, just kidding. I just hope they don't permit sales of illegal drugs because it won't last long. (Well, not long enough.)

Ok, I don't actually HOPE this...I just realize in order to appease the sheeple of this world it would be better if drugs weren't permitted to be sold.

It's an eBay without fees. Pretty awesome.
There will be no censorship but I'm sure there'll be a way to filter the NSFW stuff out. Looking forward to trying it out (over TOR).

Why would anyone make Silk Road 3? I though the 2nd Silk Road is still up and running. Or did it get hacked again?

With no rules how will they prevent scamming?

For people that don't want to go to youtube first: the url is https://openbazaar.org/. They also have https://blog.openbazaar.org and https://forum.openbazaar.org.

They use a self-issued SSL certificate and the url in the certificate doesn't match. So your browser will (should) refuse it.

I wish them good luck, but when their users start using it for illegal activities the authorities will come down on them. I hope they have a contingency plan.

The project is really interesting but I want to see how they will behave when the word will spread and they go mainstream.

said something about "electing" people who will make decisions if there are disputes.

Sounds like an "elected" person can create fake disputes on multiple accounts and make themselves win everytime. It uses bitcoins so there will be no avenues of appeal.

Sounds too risky imo.

Yaaay, awesome! I remember the times of BitMit. It was a great thing, but the whole site looked rather half-baked and not that professional. I think it's great that there's development to do this in a a decentralized manner!

It won't :D This is more of a experimental nature, and development. The price only goes up when companies from the regular economy decide to give Bitcoin a shot! But it may be a good thing for Bitcoin in the long term and become an incredibly important thing for its future!

Companies? What have companies got to do with Bitcoin?

Bitcoin is a protocol based on a decentralized open-source global peer-to-peer network.

Previous price increases have been driven by individuals around the world.

Yeah but if big companies decide to embrace Bitcoin, Bitcoin benefits from the increased exposure, gains traction and gains legitimacy in the eye of the general public! This drives up the adoption and also inherently leads to a higher price!

Yes, for example, if Coke starts using Bitcoin for selling their products and even for the payments of the employees(yeah, I know, not going to happen too soon...), then you will have a much higher demand for BTC and it will spread the word for it's billions of customers.

It's like free marketing hahaha

Yeah, they'd need those BTCs to actually use them (less supply for the market) and you also have an increased legitimacy. I mean, Coca Cola using Bitcoin, what better way of going mainstream could there even be?

Do basicaly tor hidden markets but without the illegal items? Great! I'm def. excited!

Ummm, not exactly.

See, this is an uncensored peer to peer marketplace. That means that anyone can do anything on it, and there isn't anyone with the ability to stop them. You, as the user, are responsible for applying the content filters to your portal. Don't want to see certain things? Turn them off. Done.

Also the other thing the previous posters seem to be failing to understand (perhaps on purpose? I'm starting to wonder about this place...) is that it is a truly decentralized service. No it's not going to be shut down like Silk Road. Silk Road was entirely centralized on a hidden server. Shutting it down meant finding the server. Open Bazaar connects peers directly. There is not a central server. If a peer gets shut down, his "storefront" simply becomes unavailable, while the rest of the marketplace is unaffected. If you have an understanding of torrents, and why they are resilient to shut down, then you will understand this model.

No you are not sending strangers bitcoin and hoping to receive goods without any consumer protections. There are escrow services built in with multisignature transactions. The buyer and the seller have input on which entity to use. Users have feedback ratings that are much more difficult to abuse than current centralized alternatives. These two things combined create a pretty consumer friendly environment for BOTH buyers and sellers. It's not impossible to be scammed, but a scammer would need to jump through a lot of hoops, and the person being scammed would have to make some deliberate poor choices in order for it to happen, and then the scammer would likely need to start a new identity and build reputation once more. Compared to services that already exist, I think the scammer would prefer to stick to those.

All of that is pretty awesome on it's own, but the icing on the cake is that both the payment method (bitcoin) and the peer to peer structure of the service mean there are little to no fees associated with buying, selling, or money transacting. This is huge. As anyone who sells a lot of goods on ebay or Amazon, etc. will tell you, there are fees on top of fees for everything you do, and depending on the value of what you're selling, some 10-30% of your sales could be going toward your operating costs. Without those barriers you can keep a lot more profit as a seller, or get things cheaper than they can realistically be offered anywhere else as a buyer. As a bonus, you have the option of not giving all your personal info to make a transaction.

Oh i didn't read enought about it so i didn't know there is no centralised server i thought it will be peer to peer sales but with centralised server so people wouldn't be able to sell/buy drugs there otherwise goverment federal agencies would shut down that server once it would get deanonymised but this is something totaly different.
Thank you for your explaination!

Hey Millionaire

I think devs are going to make some tutorials of how to create your store, how to buy stuff and etc.

See their answers here: http://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2cxrzu/openbazaar_teaser_102/

This is monumental.

Its a monumental failure is what it is. Good lucking trying to buy stuff on here while paying with BTC. Once payment is made, its gone. At least with Ebay/PayPal, we have buyer protection etc.

Decentralized and anonymous also means a LOT of fraud! And if you use one of the escrow crap, then you have pay escrow fees.

Also, there is a learning curve to using this rather than simply jumping on Ebay.com so I doubt anything will come out of it except crap...nice try though and hope to God that it really works so we can have a real marketplace.

If done correctly, escrow fees will only be paid when there is a problem requiring the escrow entity to take action.
