The Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit that owns and curates noted online encyclopedia Wikipedia, has received more than $140,000 in bitcoin donations since it began accepting contributions in the digital currency last week.

Wow, that's great news for bitcoin adoption within charities and also further mainstreanm adoption. One other good use of bitcoin clearly.

Impressive sum. Jimmy Wales got quite a bit in bitcoin donations for his personal address too I believe. Bet they're pissed they didn't accept it sooner now. I wonder how much they'll earn within a month?

Completely mind boggling!  If this doesn't lead to a veritable landslide of new charities starting to accept bitcoin I don't know what will!

That's a good amount of Bitcoins
Well from the 2011-2012 reports to run wikipedia for a day costs $74,500

So the community has paid for 1 day of running Wiki not bad for the first week.
