Title: My first nightmare with bitcoin!
Post by: cuddaloreappu on August 09, 2014, 04:42:34 AM
yesterday I read some stories about wallet theft went to sleep as usual..

I was driving my car in dark on an highway, and my mobile vibrates, and I think it was someone sending a message but it's a notification from wallet..I pull my car over service lane and review the transactions... all my bitcoins gone with a small message in block chain "it's over"...

I drive really rash and insane to hurry home to see what happened, and I hit my vehicle on something... at this point I screamed and woke up..

my dad came to me and asked what happened.. I felt silly to tell that I screamed for bitcoin hack in dream.. instead I said I had some ghost nightmare since I played skyrim late night for sometime..

I went back to sleep, it was totally silent midnight, I checked my wallet balance and nothing happened, it was safe and calm like the soft drizzling night...

PEACE.... GOD PROTECT MY WALLET...
the prayer is all that I could do...

Wow! You must really worry about your bitcoins being stolen. And that small message "it's over" is really creepy. I've never actually screamed out loud from a dream before but I have been startled a few times and I jumped in my bed.

Do you frequently check you balance through mobile phone in case to be stolen by hackers? You need to take some measures to protect you btc to make you comfortable with your balance. I don't know how many of btc you have got! suggest you put the most of your btc in cold wallet and put a small amount of btc in you hot wallet in case you can spend it.

I am still recovering from yesterday's dream.. I wish to write stories about bitcoin, I am writing 2 at the moment... but this incident has given a new opportunity...

an horror story... somebody combinations of private keys are actually the codes to a portal to hell.. and randomly those who possess such private keys will suffer from nightmares and eventually die mysteriously after 666 hours they possess the private key

Now that story sound awesome. It's a short story, right? I would definitely read it if I could. Any ETA for the release?

You must really worry with your BTC

If you use online, use 2FA & double password  ;D
If you use desktop, secure your wallet.dat with password & trusted internet protection.

 ;D

i have already do 2 mistake to think that i have lost a few BTC ... but no.
after recovery from backup, all BTC is right here.

backup is only a choice ... not a knowledge.

I have had similar dreams myself, fortunately I don't own much
It goes with the territory of assuming direct responsibility for one's financial destiny
An acquired skill

Buy a Trezor.

I do recall a nightmare where I was looking at the chart and a big red candle formed. Interestingly, it was a day before one of the big dips.   :P
Still looking at too many charts though!

The most secure way is to sell your bitcoin or limit your bitcoin holdings...

A backup(geo redundant) and a strong pass-phrase is worth more than a thousand prayers

I think your nightmare and concerns are valid. Hacking is so common these days, I am never sure whether my computer is malware-free, someone getting hold of my wallet backups or has stumbled upon my keys by pure luck. I know that is the "risk" I have to live with when you work with bitcoin.

Yes well if you have over 3000USD in btc i think this is when you start being very protective i mean 3000 is 6 months worth of hard work in some countries so they would love this as a present

If you have big amount of Bitcoin it's better that you separate this in many small amounts and put in different E wallets.
Use additional security and if still unsure withdraw this money.

That's funny... I just had a dream where I hacked someone's bitcoin account and was doing the evil laugh... Saying "It's over." would have been a nice touch!

From now on call the coins in your dreams BEDCOINS then you remember it's a dream and your real coins are safe :D

That sounds like cryptocurrency for hookers...  :o

You should play Amnesia (the dark descent), if you do so you would never get nightmares because of Bitcoins :P

Trusting in imaginary gods to protect you is as useful as wishing on a lucky star. It's nice to be hopeful but don't delude yourself. Take responsibility for your own protection. http://whywontgodhealamputees.com

this will make things even worse, as his money will get stolen every day, offline wallet is your friend, maybe you can just use one computer dedicated to your btc client, and installing/browsing nothing there

What does your link or post have to do with the topic? I am not a religious person but this isn't the forum for arguing about religion.

Exactly. I will take "volatility" over a steady decline of my wealth.

Exactly. Government issued money =/= real money.
As for OP, yeah nightmares can sometimes be bad. I wouldn't carry too much BTC on my phone though, it's more vulnerable than your computer. Also keep the main stash in cold storage always.

Use proper secure cold storage, sleep well knowing your money is more secure than any other form of protection in the known universe.

Windows is not less secure than any operating system out there.

And a chain is only as strong as its weakest link  :D

Bitcoins and the thought of losing them must be on your mind a lot if you are having nightmares about being hacked and losing them. I am sure if you have done research and are sure you know what you are doing is safe you will be OK and not have your nightmares become a reality :)

"it's over" is really crazy!! looks like someone wants to play a game with you. But nothings to worry about it. It is really not easy to hack if you keep your wallet with proper security.

You need to learn how to relax your body and mind as you prepare it for sleep each night. I'd recommend a brisk 15 minute walk in the fresh air an hour before you are scheduled to retire to bed, afterwhich a moderately warm beverage of cocoa.

Wow thats a nightmare. Imagine if you had millions in BTC that you were planning to put into a savings account in a bank account. Your life would be ruined. I myself am paranoid about wallet security, because when its gone, its gone forever. I usually use xapo.com, because first of all it takes 24 hours to process a withdrawal from your vault, so I could cancel it if it was unauthorized and change my password and everything. Second, the xapo.com vault is insured so if anything were to happen to it they would pay me back my bitcoin (Less than an annual percentage fee for insurance), and third, it keeps me from wasting money on gambling or little things like that ;)
If it takes 24 hours to pay, might as well not do it at all. I do keep less than 0.1 in my hot wallet on blockchain.info, as that loss wouldn't hurt me THAT much, and I need some funds for quick access like for bipolarbobs deals  ;D
