One word- Bitcoin as most of altcoins have already failed miserably.

bitcoin swings have been 5 to 10% as of late.

it's a little low right now - good time to buy.

the altcoins have not failed miserably - there are may smaller coins that have much larger swings than 5 to 10% and must better opportunity for short term profits there than bitcoin.

you will find there' a bitcoin elite here that dislike any altcoin even though bitcoin has been the target of great losses to many investors.

Altcoins are good profit making opportunities but many people are left being bagholders and then just cursing the coin.

NXT is quite low right now, IMHO the right time to invest!

ATM fourth place on coinmarketcap.com, several good developers, a new client with a "digital goods store" and a few other interesting features will be released in a few weeks.

If you're looking to avoid a "scam," just do a bit of research on coins that have a lengthy history and have had relative stability in the market.  Other than that, if you're looking for a profitable investment, it's pretty difficult to identify any alt-coin and make a sound case for its future growth.

Crypti.  Also called XCR.

Had a hot 30 day IPO that sold out in 4 days.  Now trading for twice the IPO price.

XCR is not a flash in the pan.  It is a POS coin only.  No mining.  Similar to Ripple.

The coin uses Nodejs (java), has online or personal wallets.

XCR is designed as a super quick merchant currency.

Check it out.

Presale IPO was on Bter.  Today is first day of open trading for the public.  Wallets being uploaded and funded as we type.

If you are looking for an Altcoin to invest into, look at the 'older' ones, new ones that come out are like 99% scam.

BTSX or Bitshares X.  If the market pegging works like it hoped it will explode into an economy with potential far beyond what BTC has.

Go to bitshares.org or wiki.bitshares.org.  They're in a released Beta stage, but the market pegged assets are going to be released within a month I'd guess.

PiggyCoin is a great one if you're in it for the long term.  Some teachers have already contacted us.  It has a strong, diverse community which is friendly to everyone :).  If you want to benefit from short trades, this isn't the right coin for you: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=633803.

None, rules of engagement

preassesment)NO IPO, NO PREMINE, NO INSTAMINE, NO NINJA, introduces a hyped feature to be added
1) Get in EARLY (not midway)
2) Wait for the main feature(s) to be released [if timetable is TOO long, get out]
2) Get out midway after a good price rise
3) Never get in again after the main features have been already released
*unless you're playing easy swings and know what you're doing [Experienced Traders only]

Look for another coin and repeat the process.

Never let yourself be fooled that a coin may last. Ever

Side note: What makes a good main feature to track quick money making coins?
Answer: One that is heavily hyped (i.e. anonymous sending)
