Title: Large scale mining setup investors
Post by: gadotkach on August 10, 2014, 09:48:40 PM
I would like to know if there are any manufacturers interested in setting up large scale mining operation off-shore. I know this is a broad question - what is the working model in todays date - is it cloud mine leasing only ? have we passed the stage of self mining ?

Try the project development forum: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=12.0

Mining is still viable, but you need cheap power and a heavy investment footprint to start with. As an example, you need about 67TH/s of hashing rate at this point to make $1000 a day and you would spend about 90k-100k setting that up, minus power.

Location with hydro power is cheapest you then need supporting assets.

Better still, buy some power plant and manufacture electricity yourself...

Even if electricity is free, I don't think the coin you mine can recover your ASIC miners cost.

People still self mine but now you need large scale to be able to make substantial return. The thread "H/w Hosting Directory & Reputation" (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=622998.0) has a few people running mini farms while taking advantage of experienced hosting providers to do the work and have access to industrial power rates.

Don't you guys think that having big mining facilities is against the creation goal of bitcoin?

Interesting. We are always looking for low costs mining especially with options to buy large quantities of GH/s in reasonable prices and cheap maintenance.

I would like to suggest the idea of finding out where the ASIC manufacturers are and STEALING a bunch of ASICs and using those to mine with.  Smash and grab their warehouse.

It would be fair payback to them for all they have stolen with the entire pre-order scam, and mining with the ASICs they make for months before finally sending them to the people who pre-ordered them.  Then when the people finally get them the difficulty has risen so high the miners are nearly useless.

Those don't come cheap and have loooooooong ROI times.

I guess he was joking, but if you are interested to generate electricity you can take a look at here:
