Title: Hide and Seek
Post by: proudhon on March 22, 2012, 03:55:15 PM
I'm bored, so I hid a bitcoin (well, 0.995BTC) in something here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=1.0).  Here's (http://blockchain.info/address/14bZmqq5s1Dp3FDkeMaXXAQp5HSMM9vjbF) the address so everyone can see when and if the change is moved.

Update 1:

Deafboy found the private key and only took 0.5BTC.  There's 0.4945BTC left.

Update 2:

Mushoz finished it off.

Any hints ? :)

I really do not get the "here" part which is a link back to the main bitcoin discussion page.
So I thought I could search through you recent posts and find something but that does not
seem to be the case.

I am stumped.

Hint request.
Is it word, sensense, number?
Is it plain text or link to exact topic?

It's at least made up of words.

Reading through all of your posts sucks  ;D

If it were 10 BTC, I might continue lol.

Now it's only 0.4945 ;)
Keep trying, it was not that hard...

Haha, nice.  For anyone still looking, it's not something I've said.

I'm thinking that .25 BTC may have something to do with candy bars.

No hint?  The OP links to a big hint.  And then I also offered the hint that the private key isn't something I've said.  That's 2 hints.  And besides, somebody was already clever enough to find the private key and they took half of the little prize.

It's whole line from left to right incl. spaces and special characters.
It's logical that it cannot be title or description of topic because those can be dynamicaly changed / moved / remoevd.
The string can be found on the page more than once.

I wonder how is it possible that people are complaining when someone offers them free money :D

I think I found it, I don't know how to generate a private key from the string though :p

Nice.  That's using your noodle.  I intend to play this game again.  Next time it'll be for more money, and it'll be even harder.

I actually found it before he posted that, was just wondering how to import the string :)
Thank you very much again! :)

@proudhon: I missed the fun but thanks for doing something to break the boredom. This forum is way too boring.

I'm curious.  Exactly what process/tools did you use?

Deafboy, same to you.

The private key redeemer on Mtgox apparently accepts plain text strings as well :) It generated the private key automatically! I figured it was worth a shot to try :)

I prefere not to use online tools from random strangers when it comes to bitcoin handling, but this was small amount of coins.

What offline tools do you use?  I've only used online tools for this sort of thing, but would like to use offline tools for an extremely secure brainwallet.

Everything runs in the browser.  You can download the page and run it offline.  The wallet tab accepts text/passphrase strings for "brainwallets".

I am using only original satoshi client for larger transactions, but there is some python script that can generate private & public key pairs... I can't remember the name.

Here's what I'm going to do.  When the price reaches $10 again, I'll hide 10 more bitcoins somewhere around here.
