Title: Antminer S3 Overclocking, what's your results ?
Post by: MoreBloodWine on August 12, 2014, 11:55:28 AM
What if anything did you OC your S3's to and what have you found to run stable for you going on 7+ days so it ends up looking permanent.

I was gonna jump right in on 237.5 with mine since someone said if they can't handle that then they most likely can't do anything lower which means perma stock which right now all four of mine are stable at 218.75 ~440. Seems I got lucky and got a good batch where as some have speed issues on stock an end up having to DC insread of OC their units.

Ideally I'd like to try 250 but I hear that offers mixed results, even on good machines like mine but man would I love ~500 on all four of mine.  I will try i on at least one machine to see how it works instead of OC'ing them all at the same time which some people do without seeing how on machine handles it.

But most people do seem to agree that 237.5 seems to work quite well for everyone who starts out with stable stock freq machines like me doing ~440.

On my batch 1 they sucked  as they only like 212
On my batch 4 they were good at 218 then 225 then 237 bumped them to 250 they crashed and now no longer like 237

so I was doing 940  at 237 .

I now do 890 at 225

Batch 1:
218.75 @ 441GH/s
212.5 @ 428GH/s

Batch 4:
225 @ 453GH/s
225 @ 452GH/s
237.5 @ 476GH/s

Batch 5:
237.5 @ 478GH/s
237.5 @ 479GH/s
250 @ 505GH/s

I had absolutely no luck over clocking batch 1 units.  As you can see, one of them only runs stable under clocked.  I had better luck with batch 4, and the best luck with batch 5.

Agreed... Batch 1 overclocked as well as trying to bake bread underwater.

Surprised that you could get Batch 5 stable at 505? The seem to get a bit twitchy around 480...

225 is best I can do and keep HW errors acceptable on two B4 units. No X's, just too high % of HW errors for me.

Batch 1: Out of 5 units, 2 have to be clocked at 212. 1 does 450 GH/s at 225. Last 2 are stock.
Batch 4: 4 clocked at 250 and doing 500 GH/s. 2 at 225 doing 450 GH/s.

I'm surprised some of are doing good at 250. I'll definitely have to try on of my B5's at 250. As of now, I haven tried any OC'ing yet.

I have found 2 new  freq's that work I will test 243.75 on both for 2 days.

 231.25

 243.75

option  'freq_value'    '1306' #243.75M
option  'chip_freq'      '243.75'
option  'timeout'        '16'

option  'freq_value'    '1206' #231.25M
option  'chip_freq'      '231.25'
option  'timeout'        '17'

both extra ones to try.

so we have

250
243.75
237.50
231.25
225
218.75   > stock should do 441gh
212.5
206.25
200

errors look high on one I will let it run tonight to see.

More HW errors than accepted shares lol
Stales off the chart too, but that could have been something else. 3%+ over 225 and less than .1% at 225. Temps 38 or below. Let me know if you think I'm nuts and I'll crank them. No X's at any frequencies. I'm going for accepted shares.

Seems people have he best luck with 250 on B5 which all mine are but I'm gonna run 237.5 on each for 24hrs to see what happens and i all goes well, I'll do 250 on by one or not at all depending on hash figures.

Nice little statistics you got here, so basically bigger batch number= better overclocability ?

All four batch 5's. #96 started getting X's at 238. Others started at 250. Not sure why the huge difference in fan speeds. They're all in a row with about 8 inches between them.

Batch 3
428 @ 212
440 @ 219
452 @ 225
453 @ 225

Batch 5
515 @ 256
440 @ 219
504 @ 250
466 @ 231

Batch 3
428 @ 212
440 @ 219
452 @ 225
453 @ 225

Batch 5
515 @ 256
440 @ 219
504 @ 250
466 @ 231

what are the code settings for 256? been using 243.75 and it runs well on a few, but then others are doing gr8 @ 250. I would like to bump them up to 256 to see if they can take it.

edit found them :
#option 'freq_value'   '1406'     #256.25M
#option 'chip_freq'     '256.25'
#option 'timeout'       '15'

WOW ton of errors @ 256.25 & 262.5 back to 250 ;(
