Dark blue
Other colors "interfere" green with donator for ex...
Unless you are going to permit 2 colored coins for a donator/VIP etc...?

Maybe do a multicoloured coin? But out of the options listed I would go with dark blue.

They're slightly different colors.
If both coins are next to each other, I think it would be easy to spot the difference...
But if they're not, different shades of green or purple/violet could look the same.

Legendary sounds like the highest rank of items of some mmorpg's and indeed their color is oranje.. so i voted for oranje , also rest of colors inteferes with other ranks.

I have zero artistic talent, so if you want something other than a simple color, you'll need to create the image.

If you create an image, you can modify more than just that half-coin. I did that originally only because more than a half coin's worth of color is distractingly colorful. Colorizing half a coin doesn't symbolize anything. If you create an image, make sure it's not more distracting than the normal colored half-coin.

If both coins are next to each other, I think it would be easy to spot the difference...

Yeah, that's why I chose yellow originally. All of the other primary colors are taken. But it seems that people don't like yellow, so I'll need to reuse some color. Normal blue is used for global moderators and very light blue is used for local moderators, so this dark blue is also a reuse, though maybe it's easier to distinguish.

I'm on my phone at the moment but the dark blue one is one of the only ones that is easily distinguishable for me. I can't even make out a few of the others.

when I saw this thread I thought theymos was making an alt coin called legendary lol, the topic should be called status profile coin color for legendary member status.

Why only half a coin? Why don't you make them all dark blue to really stand out?

Grey, because you can still see the difference, yet the color is subtle enough that it's not in your face.

Why do you have to question authority LOL

I think five dark blue would be pretty ugly.

~BCX~

Maybe but it would make the real people really stand out from the common rabble which is what this is really all about anyway.

I personally prefer (and accordingly, voted for) the dark blue, partially because I think it stands out from existing ones (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.0) the most (all the others are very similar in color to existing ranks, except for yellow which is almost invisible), and partially because it's my favorite color. :3

However, the grey looks a bit like Satoshi's platinum coins, which I think might be nice as it's for users who've been around and active for a long time (the minimum of 775 activity requires at least ~55 weeks of activity, or more depending on how often the user posts -- activity thread for reference (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.0)).

It looks like Orange is the best and only option. Violet and Green mixed with Donator/VIP. Yellow is like ghost, Dark Blue is too dark. Grey would be my second choice even it confuses with Moderator coin.

About the poll, I would vote for any of the other options but not the yellow.
It seems transparent when displayed on the light gray post row and furthermore it has no shadow anymore...
Looks like the Legendary level only has 4 coins and half, less than Hero!  ;D

Some questions and suggestions:

Is the coin dimension mandatory? Actually it's only 13x13px and the coins seem a bit washed out. If we could use a 16x16 icon like the favicon of the forum then they will be a lot more detailed.

Why use only the 5th coin to distinguish among the upper levels? It always seems to me like a not "full" Hero. Am I the only one?
What about using ALL the coins and color the half bottom part of them (or just the last third)? It could also be just a smaller detail to make the difference, like the color of the BTC symbol or just the border of the coins.

As perhaps an added bonus when coloring all the coins, is the fact that a senior staff member could easly have both 4 coins and the "color badge", instead of always 5 coins even if he's lesser than hero. But probably it was an intended behaviour, just not sure about it.

@rugrats:
I think they look better than the current ones. Just be aware that you resized them to an height of 12px instead of 13.

Isn't it a bad idea to have Legendary be more flashy than Staff which is light gray, or Global Mods? Although Donator/VIP is flashier than both of those already. I guess if we're not going to go with yellow, I'd be for making staff/mod/admin more visible because with over 2000 users who are active, you'll see it often.

Anyway, I like the dark blue one same as everyone else it seems.

Title: Re: Legendary coin color
Post by: mitzie on August 13, 2014, 05:45:20 PM
Theymos, definitely don't make it orange, it can confuse people with the red coin that admins have :/

Light green is very similar with the donator's green coin
Violet is very similar with the VIP's purple coin
Grey is very similar with the coin that Moderator's have

I would only go with the one you have set now (yellow)..

I agree that orange could be mistaken for admins and should not be used I liked the grey color but that is also similar to mods coin.

I don't feel legendary, can't I make it look like before? Also I propose my current Avatar Text to be substituted for the member type.

"Drama Junkie" has a nice ring to it don't you think, and if you are honest it's also the one reason to keep posting.

I think legendary needs to be marked by an extra coin, not color. In coming days there may be activity levels like Full Legendary, Sr. Legendary and Hero Legendary. Colored coins will become a problem then...

Well we are not playing a game to have so many ranks or levels.. in fact new people even notice the ranks.. but ontopic i would say that the first custom coin that made the user was great.. one above the rainbow coin

Both dark blue and gray look good and not so easy to be confused with other ranks.

However, the grey looks a bit like Satoshi's platinum coins

satoshi has 5 platinum coins, so even if legendary members have half gray coins, it shouldn't look too similar. :)

Those look very nice by themselves, but I think that they might be jarring if actually used because your coin icons look similar to but not exactly the same as the current coin icons. The current icons don't have the BTC. Still, I added the first two to the poll.

My votes, in the order of preference:

2. orange
3. dark blue

OR

something like this gif but smaller and it should revolve no more than once in a 60 second period so as not to be too distracting:

How about making Donator/VIP/Staff/Admin and Legendary coin colors separate?

Example:
https://i.imgur.com/MVzDozl.png

Implementation wise, make three base images (4 & 1/2 coins: normal, legendary, founder), and donator/vip/staff/admin half coins and join them together.

They are slightly more visually distracting, however means that getting up to legendary will upgrade everyone's coins.

The rainbow bitcoin pattern in #18 looks great when they are big, but it doesn't look as good when they are small. So, I choose the simple dark blue one.
