Title: Bitcoin Island Party - "The Bit Drop"
Post by: LiteCoinGuy on August 13, 2014, 06:35:06 PM
Bitcoin Island Party

Join Coinapult, Aspen Assurance & Bitcoin Beauties
for the first tropical Bitcoin party! We are throwing a full-island party called The Bit Drop for an entire nation in the Caribbean. The Bit Drop will be sending Bitcoin to every resident with SMS texting on this Caribbean island — roughly tens of thousands of people who call this island home will be part of a unique experience. Each islander will own Bitcoin and celebrate in style with well-known surprise musical artists who support Bitcoin, fire dancers, sponsored tropical island spirits, free giveaways, and full bitcoin education booths during the event.

Strange, this looks like Necker Island? (which happens to be a private island) It's possibly a scam, if you ask me.

it is strange, there is some details which are not clear at all
we will have to take it with caution until we see more details about the party

Not being many details it could be a scam so best to not get too over excited until more details if they are, are released. On a good note though a bitcoin island party does sound like a lot of fun to attend.

If you look at the name of the picuture... you are indeed correct. Yet, the picture seems to have nothing to do with letthebitdrop.com. Maybe OP just googled "nice island"?

In fact I only see a single page with a lot of text that does not make me want to send them money.

All 3 announced thebitdrop on their twitter though.[1]

Funny, how the OP and cap2002 over at Reddit post similarly, and somehow SRB gets tossed into the mix now and then.

Looks like some stealth marketing's afoot that may have the potential of a money grab.

Title: Re: Bitcoin Island Party
Post by: franky1 on August 14, 2014, 02:48:16 PM
i knew the image that the "litecoinguy" posted was Richard bransons island. but i just presumed he linked a random island image just for the sake of it..

where as the "bitcoin island party" never mentions any details such as:
how many hotel rooms that may be available, (they want a mass crowd, then its stupid to pick a small island with just 1 hotel with 50 rooms)
which week
which island

so i put "the litecoinguy" post aside, and was concentrating on the money grab campaign from coinapult. (the madhatter).
but from what i can see it is most definetly a money grab. cheeky beggers!

id rather a campaign be where they mention the lation and the dates (a specific week) and allow us to just use expedia and other bitcoin accepting travel sites to book the hotel/filight. rather than doing these crap centralized money grabs, just to make them richer.

aspen assurance turn bitcoins into FIAT. kinda strange for a fiat converter to be involved in a PURELY bitcoin hand out project. which also led me to believe it was a money grab.. as there would be no need at all to even touch fiat, if this were a true bitcoin project.

but yea its kinda obvious to be a money grab when the 'off-shore bank account' company is involved rather than expedia

70,000 Caribbean Island Residents to Receive Bitcoin in 2015

All 70,000 residents living on the Caribbean nation of Dominica will be eligible to receive bitcoin as part of ‘The Bit Drop’ project, an upcoming collaboration between bitcoin businesses, interest groups and local government officials.

Scheduled to take place on 14th March, 2015, The Bit Drop will feature an island-wide party boasting ‘celebrities, musicians and supporters of bitcoin’, as well as education booths and free giveaways. The event will also coincide with Pi Day, an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi).

This whole scheme reeks of a way to catch a few dumb lonely bitcoin whales, lure them to a tropical island, and bleed them of as much wealth as possible.

You guys are very pesimistic.

of course we are.
think about it. there are only 170,000 tonnes of gold, and 13mill bitcoins. this equates to:
1btc=458 ounces (on a rarity scale)

so knowing how rare bitcoin is, how pessimistic would you be for people on the internet to ask for 46 ounces of gold(0.1btc) for some project.

doing due diligence and not automatically trusting things is what smart bitcoin holders SHOULD be doing. scammers only win if people hand over funds without trusting or checking first. so treat everyone as a scammer until proven innocent. especially if you have the funds, they dont and their the ones asking for free donations

Fair enought, I suppose the fact I cannot just buy a ticket to this party with BTC is pretty sketchy..  I figured they would just set it up if you wanted to go it would cost... I dunno 2-5 BTC with 10% of that going to this cause.

Each islander will own Bitcoin and celebrate in style with well-known surprise musical artists who support Bitcoin, fire dancers, sponsored tropical island spirits, free giveaways, and full bitcoin education booths during the event.

some will just convert the coin into FIAT, some will lose their bitcoin and some will use their BTC and tell their friends about it.

Now how fun of a vacation would that be, and just imagine all the fun intoxicated crypto chats with fellow bitcoiners!  Cool

.1 though, I rather save it and hope one day its worth a vacation on its own.

Hmm.   Google images the island.  Looks like there isn't much of any infrastructure, civilization, or much of anything going on there aside from a couple small villages.

Everyone looks sweaty, run down, and dirty.

Why did they pick this island?  They must have skipped over 15 islands to get there.

All with a heck of a lot higher tech savvy citizens, and maybe even some infrastructure to support an economy.

Is this a publicity stunt for Coinapault or actually something that will benefit Bitcoin in the long run?
