Title: Basic terminology and some issue
Post by: petlad on August 13, 2014, 07:10:22 PM
Hi,

I am new to mining and would like to know following

I am using slush's pool and guiminer.

I started three days before and received message on guiminer that 4 shares accepted .. and later find some 1X 10 -8 bit coin credited. I mined for just 2 hours or so. What does it mean by shares accepted ?

Today I started the miner and logged using the credential and had 10 shares accepted but nothing showed up in slush's pool account. ! does this happen ?

Kindly provide some clues and facts . Does any one have list of words that are used between miners and bitcoin mining pools and its basic meaning?

If yes pls provide the link to access them

Thanks

From this it sounds like you are mining Bitcoin with GPU's.

With GPU's it will be very hard to mine BTC.  You should look into alt coins, although it is hard for most to mine for profit with altcoins on GPU's.

Asics are really needed now day's for profitable mininng.

a share is a work unit also know as a problem
accepted share means the server sent you a work unit and you solved it and sent it back
rejected shares means the pool sent you a work unit and for some reason your miner sent back an error (1%error rate is normal 10% on gpus)
stale share (you will see a few with gpus) it means someone else solved that work unit as it took to long for you
