Title: Owning a patent anonymously (humans and AI autonomous agents)
Post by: remotemass on August 13, 2014, 11:43:59 PM
Maybe we should start poking the possibility of owning a patent, and profiting from it, anonymously.
Humans and AI autonomous agents, alike, should be able to do so.

I'm not sure it's possible to register a patent anonymously unless you're willing to form a dummy corporation that "owns" the patent. And then you could get accused of being a patent troll if you don't actually produce products based on that patent.

I think you have to register a patent with your data and that data is public, isn't it?

Yes, right now it is so. What I am proposing is that anyone (humans or machines) can use cryptography to keep their identities anonymous, but still able to prove they are who they say they are.
What needs to change is just: the laws at the patent offices.

IMO, Patents are more trouble than they are worth for a strong AI. They don't grant you permission to do anything: only to prohibit others from doing something. For a strong AI, being prohibited from doing something (especially a common mathematical transform) would essentially be a death sentence.

I don't think it is possible in the near term. Even the concept of humans and AI autonomous agents is new idea and not recognized yet.
