Title: Gangrene
Post by: iluvbitcoins on August 17, 2014, 01:29:56 PM
My grandmother has gangrene

it's pretty bad, her flesh is starting to fall off

I know she's probably going to die, but..

isn't there any cure for gangrene?

did you have anyone in your family who had this and what are your experiences?

I'm sorry to say that, but the only cure is a cutting the hand off.

not a possibility since the flesh is falling of from her back, you can't cut her back off  :'(

This is terrible disease

I just browsing and found this

way of treatment from doctors usually are:
-Guilation amputation of dividing and cutting body parts to healthy tissue [not infected]
-The doctor will also prescribe high doses of antibiotics to fight infection.
-Giving Hyper Basic Oxygen, the purpose of this action is that oxygen can enter so the clostridium bacteria that cause gas gangrene can be killed

Maybe that information can help you :)

Sorry to hear this, but btt is probably not your best bet for finding answers.

Visit the hospital asap, best thing that she can do.

the doctors know everything

she actually got gangrene while she was in the hospital

we took her there when she had a fever and she returned with gangrene

a nurse comes to our house 2 times a week, we take her to the hospital for regular checks

all we got was some cream to put on the wounds which clearly isn't helping, since there's no place to put the cream on, she has a hole in her back
the rotten tissue fell off and now it's just a hole there

amputation not possible, as I said gangrene affected her back [spine etc.], that can't be amputed

the doctor didn't prescribe any antibiotics just pain killers [ 600 mg] and she still screams in pain, I didn't sleep right in days

I think she has dry gangrene not gas gangrene  :-\

Depends on what stage but I think it is too late most of the time. Normally they amputate  :-\

they couldn't amputate, that's where it started, on her back  :-\

it's the most terrible way to die, and I hate to see her suffer like that

If the dead tissue is on the back usually it's not being fed enough oxygen because of tissue compression. Unfortunately with the back there is minimal chance for recovery.  With limbs there is always the option of hyperbaric chamber or reperfusion surgery.

isn't hypebaric chamber used only for gas gangrene?
I actually don't know which type of gangrene she has, but googling around seems like it isn't gas gangrene
I thought it was dry but as they said she's rotting from the inside too it's probably internal

shouldn't the doctors initiate this on their own?

their incompetence keeps to astonish me

when we first brought her to the hospital, the doctor said literally "why the hell did you bring her, you should of left her die at home"

my mom then said, "if it was your mother, would you leave her?"

the doctors attitude changed..

but still, they thought she was going to die that day

however, she got trough

but even I now think she's not going to make it another month

what I'm starting to suspect is that it's their fault she got the gangrene
she didn't have it before we got back from the hospital

when she came back she felt severe pain in her hips, we saw a bruise on her hip and one on her back
after googling I find out that one of the causes of gangrene is

Quote
Diabetes
Atherosclerosis
Peripheral arterial disease
Trauma or injury
Raynaud's phenomenon (a condition in which the blood vessels that supply the skin become intermittently narrowed)

Hyperbaric will only work on the upper layers of the skin.  If the cause was a burn the it would help.  If the cause is malnutrition and compression ulcers it's not going to do anything.

As far as I know, the only thing you can do about stuff like that is amputate. I'm really sorry for your grandma, and I wish you and her the best!

I wish it was..

Man that sounds really bad, sorry to hear. As others have said amputation/removal of the gangrenous tissue is the standard procedure I think, but I'm not sure how that would be performed if it's on her back.

It worries me that she is in a lot of pain, make sure she is prescribed stronger painkillers, probably opiates/opioids to ease the pain - I can't imagine anything worse than being on my potential deathbed in agony.

All the best.

we give her painkillers regulary, she can't even eat anymore

there's a tube going trough her nose to her stomach, we got some fluids at the pharmacy we use as food to inject in that tube
same goes for water

I swear, if she didn't get gangrene she would live at least a 100 years
They thought she was going to die a lot of times, and every time she got trough, she was always stronger then people thought

And when I look at her, I think she's going to recover because she's a fighter, but when I look at the wound..

it's like she was shot with a shotgun, I know she's not going to make it
it may sound bad, but if I took a picture of the wound, you would know what I'm talking about..
