You seem to misunderstand how coin launches work. If developers release source it will mean a launch. Unless you are willing to review the source code by yourself in private

We thought we would add a pool.

See if anyone mines on it :)

It's a connoisseur's coin, a bit like that Scandinavian tinned rotten fish that you have to open under water. Really off-putting at first but if you can overcome your distaste ...

No really... Where's github link with commit history etc?

Uploading code at "release" is bull defecation.  Newbie accounts?

Code should be reviewed by community before launch.  Otherwise, don't release on bitcointalk forums.
Setup your own coin's forum.

The trust rating was intended for trade. I haven't made any trade.
It seems someone abuses this as I have got all the negatives just after launching the coin!

It was.... from my Trust summary:
Quote
User                      Date            Risked BTC amount
CanaryInTheMine 2014-08-17  0.00000000

@marada:
Yes, the number of coins includes all the coins possible, POW and POS. It is quite common that devs claim the POW coin amount as total, but I want to be fair. There will be 1000*100+49000*50=2550000 coins n PoW period. The rest will be in the PoW/PoS period.

A big glory to those who are solo-mining! You are tough cookies, guys!

Nothing is cool about this guy. He missuses trust rating giving users false information about the dev. This dev did not scam anyone (yet  :-\ ). So there is no reason to mark him as a scammer preemptively. Anybody with a half of a brain may see that this is a new account and one should treat everything that dev releases with caution. But marking him as a scammer is just bullshit.
There are million ways to hide some crap in the coin source so community will not find it until its too late. Bittrex guys told it many times already and they are security experts

To which “community” do you refer? And could you give a few more details about the review process you're insisting upon?

(Just because you paid several BTC for your Hero account doesn't entitle you to throw your weight around unilaterally.)

I'd like to summarize the facts about the code and launch.

Yes, there is no binary wallet at launch, but everyone can build it from the sources. This is a bit geeky coin, maybe not for everyone. If anybody is scared that the code wasn't reviewed - he can launch it in a virtual machine, won't hurt anybody.

I have released the code before the launch (to test it on another machines) but someone started premining before the official launch, so I had to modify and upload again (this is the anti-Croatian-patch, because this guy's IP is from Zagreb, Croatia).

Nearly all the devs release the code or binaries at the launchtime. It very often happens that binaries are released before the sources, but I appreciate the idea of open source. You earn coins not just with your hardware but also with your skills.
That's why there's a bounty for those who have skills and will build the binaries for the rest of community.

The issue is that your "bounty" is worthless.  50 coins?  How about offering 50,000 coins.  Even then you'd have trouble finding someone with enough interest to help you.

It seems to be just because CanaryInTheMine condescended to look up here, demand releasing the sources BEFORE the launch and when it did not happen posted his negative comment.

The only what is really amazing is why just this time? I have seen hundreds of coin launches and the wallet was never released before the launch.
Moreover it was a common practise not to release sources even an hour after the launch, just on pools demands. Binaries only (what is really bad, I can not mine in such cases).

This dev released the sources... and has got that!

It is very much unfair unless he do the same with all others devs who didn't release the sources before launch (90%+ of launches here).

I don't think the launch is bad because of not releasing binary wallet! I think this is much better than binaries only.
Well, it may prevent some morons from early mining and give an extra reward for those who can build it fast themselves!

I think the reason behind this really "special treatment" could be another coin being in his interest, maybe launched nearby...

binary only isn't good at all, small miners must wait for pool owners(also bad distribution not everyone can compile, on windows is problematic too), and big pool can instamine the shit out of this crap

binary and qt together are mandatory for any coin

and instamining is relative, a big hash(renting hash) can "instamine" at diff 10 for example...

It is not really unfair people get something for what they can do rather than for how much do they have!

I don't know how could it prevent small miners, unless you are talking about the size of their brains.

No vendor-related binaries are mandatory. Only the sources are mandatory (unless you make a closed source coin).

The same no AMD or NVIDIA miner is mandatory, it is only expected by miners using this kind of stuff.

You can find a lot of good info in Meta, like how you don't buy Hero accounts: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178608.0

Thank you for your consideration and the specific pointer to meta. I have a couple of problems with that thread: firstly the statements are being made by people posting from pseudonymous accounts, this is ungrounded circular reasoning which has to be considered fatally weak as a matter of course. Secondly, and more compellingly, the information presented there is irrelevant to the issue, e.g. “WTB: HERO member accounts (several) active in altcoin forums !  (Read 1096 times)” https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=728902.0.

For me, the simple fact that the above-mentioned thread has not been deleted by a moderator informs me that private purchases of bitcointalk accounts, even of Hero status, are tolerated, perhaps even approved of. So, I apologise for gainsaying you but it is possible at least to publicly attempt to make a private purchase of Hero status bct accounts and there seems to be no board-imposed obstacle to the completion of the transaction, hence my original tongue-in-cheek question.

There is no reliable means of distinguishing your Heroic pseudonymous a/c from that of an arbitrary person with BTC to spend. Because this is bitcointalk, I am obliged to doubt both your intentions and motivation merely as a matter of principle. Lest I inadvertently give offence, I should hasten to add that this is nothing personal, I am sympathetic to the views that you espouse, I'm merely restricting myself to what I can reliably infer from the facts that I can discover.

However, the unfortunate upshot of this is that it will seriously weaken the effectiveness of your campaign because it leaves your challenges vulnerable to simple dismissal on the grounds that you are trying to impose double standards.

Cheers

Graham

Hmm, it looks to me like we are entering new era in crypto:
1. New-comers (newbie accounts) are guilty, until they prove (somehow) their innocence;
2. We are not anymore free to be responsible for our actions (like mining scam/shit coins, like watching who is releasing new coin, like deciding whether to trust or not some dev, coin, project) - there are some GUARDIANS that are doing and will do the thinking on our behalf. In other words - "crypto" 'has nothing to do anymore with "free", "independent", etc.
3. Ordinary miners - screw us all, we do not deserve any chance... We should go and mine unprofitable (but "trusted") coins... So that traders, sharks, crypto-powerful men, whatever you like to call them can make more and more, and more... Otherwise - do not mine, sell cheap all your equipment, right...

Ya, I see a bright future is coming... For the few...

Outrage.

Launching the coin with the sources only? Yesssss, I like it!
You'd all prefer a coin with binaries, but without sources? Haha

Having an expensive machine with a lot of GPUs is not enough :D The one who wants to use it, should have some skills, too ;) at least the ability to build the wallet from sources himself :D

The same no AMD or NVIDIA miner is mandatory, it is only expected by miners using this kind of stuff.

as i said not anyone have all the tool to compile, usualy small miners don't have it, in comparison to pool operators

we aren't amd or nvidia here, qt should be provided, providing only the source it's not far away from just let everyone build his own coin, which is retarded

a real dev should provide everything about his coin if he want his coin to be taken seriously

also the source itself isn't a "solid barrier", one can just do a 51% at launch and invalidate all the other hash, which is equal to instamine

Release source code first.

You seem to misunderstand how coin launches work. If developers release source it will mean a launch. Unless you are willing to review the source code by yourself in private

Quote
OP with negative rating , worst launch .

Since CanaryInTheMine has found altcoin section all launches going to have negative rating devs (or at least ones that CanaryInTheMine will spot on his free time)

No really... Where's github link with commit history etc?

Uploading code at "release" is bull defecation.  Newbie accounts?

Code should be reviewed by community before launch.  Otherwise, don't release on bitcointalk forums.
Setup your own coin's forum.

I love this guy!

I understand that you are an alt coin dev for hire. So someone can pay you and order an alt coin from you then release under newbie account by posting with no source code or any info to vet against scams.
So, if you were hired to create some altcoins, announce it.  Stand behind it, it helps with vetting.
Did you create this altcoin for hire?

The trust rating was intended for trade. I haven't made any trade.
It seems someone abuses this as I have got all the negatives just after launching the coin!

It was.... from my Trust summary:
Quote
User                      Date            Risked BTC amount
CanaryInTheMine 2014-08-17  0.00000000

I don't like such practises. It looks like slander.
But why? Because CanaryInTheMine didn't like this coin?

Stay on topic: what I don't like is people getting scammed and zero vetting.

Do you think this coin has been vetted?

Most of these "devs" do not know how to even compile a wallet tbh. This should tell you a lot about the coins future.

I added Ambercoin to the Minkiz ACME “block explorer”. Don't expect too much, it basically just dumps decorated RPC output into a web page, it's a work in progress but what isn't?

Look at amber mining on wikipedia ;) ;) ;)
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Amber_mining
I like the name of Amber Coin and finally I've found something new :) I've build the wallet without any problems/errors on my Ubuntu, and now I have a problem. What settings for 7950? I've mined scrypt and qubit on my GPU before, I've never tried X11. May I use the same sph-sgminer I use to mine qubit? Is it worth trying solo-mining (low diff)?

I would have to agree with this & thank you as well, to many new coin ANN's are started with bad code or viruses. As someone who likes to test them all, it's very helpful to have someone to review the code for what most aren't able to find. Honest coins even paid bounties to have their code reviewed, showing trust & that it's safe to use. Yes, I understand that Bittrex has security knowledge & even they have a tough time with some of it till it's too late. I'm referring to the stuff that is easy to spot & saving the few people before the ANN is deleted, or they invest & mine it to find out hours/days/weeks down the road.[/center]

Since the source code has been published, everybody can view it. That's why I've published the sources, not the binaries only. What's the problem? The problem is a bounty for reviewing?

They look serious, giving their address (http://www.fobcoin.com/index.php/Home/Help/contact): Ke Chuang Building, Ke Yuan Da Dao 25-1#, Nanning, Guangxi, China. Tel: 0771-3210174 but sorry I'm not from China, and don't know even how to check if it's true place and a real company.

2) the weaknesses of this coin?
3) promises made? kept? any FUD?

Specifically to the dev(s), what will be the key original code/feature(s) in this coin?
And will you be providing "Proof of Developer"? http://cryptoasian.com/coin-list/

I am working on it. Got a new idea in the afternoon, now managed to solve one problem, mined block 900, hoping that it will go now. Now putting checkpoint and getting sync between my machines. If it goes - the rest will be simple (everybody will have to upgrade their wallets and download the blockchain again). If it doesn't - I'll give a bounty for solving the problem, too.

No, there're 2 changes that are NOT on github yet.
I'll upload the newest version in a minute.
But the problem is: when I've deleted the chain and I'm getting synced between my machines, I stop at "835 block remaining". At one of them I'm on block 902 but the other one (the seed node) can't get synced.
I've got no idea now how to solve it at the moment, but will not abandon the coin, and I'll go on working on it. And I'll add some AMBER to the above offers if somebody helps me.

Even a fool can tell you that nobody is able to predict anything on cryptocoin markets. This IS a kind of roulette wheel. I've seen so many scented shitcoins which reached phenomenal prices, that now my strongest rule (besides alive dev and problem-free wallet building on my laptop) is to mine the coin with a good/nice name.

6th day of this coin, let's sum the first week up:
Hashrate between 2 and 250 MH.
One disaster on Tuesday which had been fixed in a few hours.
One exchange www.fobcoin.com
And I've started making the website.

Plans and goals for the next week:
Stable hashrate at about 100 MH (a bit more than it's now).
Finish the website.
200 followers on twitter.
Another exchange.

Even a fool can tell us the future of this coin and it is quoted at 0.00021 at fobcoin.

Good name - it's true.
Good plan for the next week - it's true.
Waiting for good news.

Updated windows wallet

This one shouldn't need DLLs.

Let me know if there are any issues

The staking info in my wallet shows:

Minting.
Your weight is XXXXX.
Network weight is 0.
Expected time to earn reward is 0 second(s).

Contrary to many other POW/POS coins in POW stage.

Is everything all right?
Aren't we facing similar issue whitecoin experienced?

I don't think so... I havn't taken anything from their code. What was the exact reason of those whitecoin issue? Code?

Maybe it would be good that some more Windows users check this, too? http://www.filedropper.com/ambercoin-qt

I have checked the things. It seems it is OK.
Now we're in pure PoW (until block 50,000) so there should not be the network weight. Your weight comes from the fact that you have old coins, but they are not staking as long as we are in PoW period.
After block 50,000 there will be PoW/PoS hybrid period, when the coin will be mined both by PoW (the block reward remains the same) AND PoS. In this period there should be network weight and your wallet will stake, too.

I hope that this resolved you doubts.

Maybe you had undestood that theres PoW/PoS period and pure PoS later? No! It's pure PoW period and PoW/PoS later :)

Yes, it did resolve.
I was a bit surprised as the most of POW/POS coins uses the hybrid phase first and then pure POS.
It need to be noticed this time the situation is different.
Actually AMBER is the POW coin with POS additional protective measure in it's latter period.

Hey hello, but he has written this in the announcing post :) :) it's enough to read carefully :) :)
This is untypical, yes, of course, that's true. Untypical like the max coins constant given, not the coins to be mined until block 50000 - but this was written clearly from the beginning :)

Are you able to point out what coin was copied and pasted?
Are there many coins with POS where POW never ends?

All coins are copies of BTC. You are the copy of yourself asking about who has been cloned :)
If you were able even to clone a coin, you would do it yourself. You envy a good name.

Version seems to be all right.
Have you tried deleting everything from the data folder with the exception of wallet.dat file (if you have some coins there)?
You can try adding nodes to the conf file.

Code:
addnode=37.59.21.199
addnode=78.8.2.228
addnode=85.10.194.50

I understand you are stuck at block 400 now?

My wallet works fine. It is compiled from the github.
If you have got precompiled version, please leave more details,
your OS and where the wallet was taken from, maybe something from debug.log?

And we need to wait for the dev...

Strange. Now I've checked it, and I get synced without problems

Have you deleted everything from ~/ambercoin/ directory (EXCEPT wallet.dat)? Most important is to delete peers.dat file.
If no - do it.

Create an ambercoin.conf file there:
Code:
rpcuser=anyuser
rpcpassword=anypass
rpcallowip=127.0.0.*
gen=0
server=1
listen=1
addnode=37.59.21.199
addnode=78.8.2.228
addnode=85.10.194.50

or add this nodes by typing into the wallet console:
Code:
addnode 37.59.21.199 add
addnode 78.8.2.228 add
addnode 85.10.194.50 add

What OS do you use? Have you built the wallet yourself or used a precompiled one for Win or Mac OS X?

If the addnode function is not aviable (don't know why, maybe because win build on another win version...) but anyway: create an ambercoin.conf file in ~/ambercoin directory:

rpcuser=anyuser
rpcpassword=anypass
rpcallowip=127.0.0.*
gen=0
server=1
listen=1
addnode=37.59.21.199
addnode=78.8.2.228
addnode=85.10.194.50

Do you know where ~/ambercoin is located on your disk, or having troubles finding it?

Looks like windows build was broken. We had exactly the same problem before bug fixing.
I can not verify it as I have no access to windows machine, but it looks like that.

Could someone check it and recompile binary for windows?

*** 500 AMBER bounty for fixing this issue. ***

Alternatively you may try to make your own build from sources.

I will also try to find a way how to make windows executables using linux,
but it may take a lot of time as I am not yet familiar with cross-compilation.

Hmm

seems checkpoint issue.

https://github.com/ambercoin/ambercoin/blob/master/src/checkpoints.cpp

Has invalid checkpoint it seems

Uploading to dropbox now.

Basically, I've just removed the checkpoint from the current codebase - so it will work.

Testing it also.

Nice game :)

But what about exchanges? You have only this Chineese fobcoin.com which is not very popular. A better known exchange will help your coin a lot.

I'm working on it, talking to exchanges, I'd like to have one more, as it was in my roadmap for this week. But anyway - there's some trading volume at that Chineese one http://www.fobcoin.com/index.php/Home/Trade/index/convertId/26. At really surprising price!

My goals from the previous week are only partially done
- https://twitter.com/AmberCoin (I'm working on it)
but the hashrate has grown
and people are trading on fobcoin.com.

The main goals for the following weeks are:
-> a lot of online games (roulettes, casinos, hot potato etc)
-> stable hashrate

And the really long term goal is:
-> a virtual museum of amber, with the games inside, where the visitors would be able to buy real pieces of amber, too.

HI ALL! Where they sell this coin now? Exchange listed here do not have the turnover of this coin. But I see that a lot of units produced me have a commission, I conclude that the coins are in circulation ...(translate.google)

Just a warning... stay away from hasharder.com - (21574, 21568, 21562, 21547, 21467) - those are all block numbers that I successfully solved for the that pool and seeing as how I was the only miner at the time was supposed to get the "full block" reward (-the fee of course) the coins were supposed to go to MY wallet address... (AKYMsNRkTzVoznggCw958xjkDjbrbQehK8) but instead they were send to THIS address (AJxmHNC6xYXw2eYGdHcSMdASZptE11XfnG) - which I think is hashharder.com's own personal wallet. This means they're stealing my coins!

Now I know the game by now... bitching like a little girl won't help me get coins back... But It might just prevent other miners from losing theirs...

Why do you need a pool? The difficulty of near zero, the mining solo.Coin has no commercial interest nobody produces only enthusiastic support chain, unfortunately ...

Yeah.. we would steal a worthless coin with no exchange?! Are you sure you just didnt mine with a different address? Anyway, of course all the coins go to our wallet first - you do understand how a pool works right? They then get paid out.

However, I am not seeing your address in any records.

Nowhere. It's an abandoned coin.
But hell... The blockchain is moving again.
And people buy it at extraordinary prices, thinking that it is the new AmberCoin https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=944408.0
