Title: Clear Unused Recieving Addresses?
Post by: BrightAnarchist on August 07, 2010, 07:24:39 AM
Is there a way to do this? When I first installed I created a bunch of extra addresses that are annoying.

Won't hurt to keep them, but since there's no transactions assocaited with them it would be nice if I could clear them.

As far as i know, there's no way to delete/remove an address,
once created it's yours till the end of days.

I think he just doesn't want to see it anymore. That could obviously be an option in a future client.

Right, but when I generate an address (which stores an assocaited public/private key pair in my wallet), as long as it's not involved in any transactions, then it is never broadcast to the network. As far as I'm concerned, it's just a set of unused keys in my wallet. I don't see any reason why I shouldn't be able to delete this key pair from my wallet, correct?

Maybe I'm not understanding it fully....

Oh, that does make sense.

I see why they wouldn't put it in the client though, accidentally deleting the wrong addys would be expensive. There should be a hide this addy button though. I'm sure with a little knowhow you could modify the wallet file to forget them.

Is there really a need to do anything but hide them?
