Title: Do you think there's any future in Bitcoin?
Post by: Rigon on August 19, 2014, 11:06:04 AM
The price is dropping for no reason. Some says its falling out of favor since public interest is waning, some say its just maturing.

Either way, onced it hits a certain level, it will trigger a massive sell off which will further push the price down, or even cause a crash. My prediction for that level is somewhere around $200-300 where the bitcoin fever started picking up last year

You will probably better understand the future of bitcoin when your bank collapses and will be bailed-in with creditor's money

Public confidence in it has been dropping after the whole Mt Gox thing. On top of that, you have people investing in other bitcoin alternatives without the same success that bitcoin had.

MtGox happened quite a long time ago, which has nothing to do with the collapse of the price this time.

+1000!

Bitcoin is just like gold and silver in the sense that there will be manipulation, FUD and price smashes until one day the music stops and people will quickly learn the true value of having monetary instruments that are actually in your possession.

People who don't understand that Mt Gox is not bitcoin are pretty dumb - particularly reporters.  It is like saying "public confidence in the dollar has been dropping since the convenience store got robbed."

Price fluctuations at this stage do not matter. Cost Bitcoin tends to recover quickly. The most important thing to functioning network and growing infrastructure, and the price over time highs.

I do not think there is a future in Bitcoin as any form of mainstream currency. I do think it will survive, but it will always be a niche for speculators and misfits.

Yes, it has a future as a powerful niche. But perspective is key. Bitcoin is a cool ecosystem, but it's not going to save the world or radically overhaul the economy. Some of the early stage propaganda reads like people thought BTC would change the entire economic system by itself. It's good that the enthusiasm is waning, and it's entering a maturing phase.

If you really want to cause social change, (some alt currency types claim they do), crowdfunding is a much more powerful engine. The bedrock of any genuine economy is food, water, energy and innovation. Currency is seconday.

People need a big bitch slap (a couple more) by the banks so they understand how Bitcoin can be useful for them. Then maybe we start getting mainstream adoption.

The case is still on going.

An average consumer will want to know how the law will protect them in this kind of situation.

Its hard to predict anyone's future. Its possible some big company like Paypal start Crypto-currency of their own...so can't say.

I dont think Paypal and Ebay would start a Crypto on their own when BTC is already stablished, they will gain nothing. They will end up being forced to accept BTC.

They should accept all product to bee payed in BTC or any other altcoin. But seem like they are skeptic on this matter.

Maybe they think that will loose more on this or maybe there are afraid of any cryptos on that matter.

Comparing internet and bitcoin is getting old.

You can own bitcoin but not internet. And a lot of internet dotcom companies went bust.

there is not enough bitcoin enlightment, mainstream media and economists, plus people trying to keep status quo are very good at demonizing BTC.
Every time I talk about bitcoin to people who know it, they hate it!
They have already built an negative emotional relationship to it. They always say things like, pyramid scheme, fraud, creation of CIA or only for criminals and pedos, or naive people will lose all their money it should be illegal!!!.............. It is really hard to convince them other way. :-[

I can not see how the fact that bitcoin is constantly rising and falling again can prove or even strike doubts about bitcoins future. The price will continue to rise and fall but I don't see it ending bitcoin.

and now the price is pretty stable, nothing to worry about

I would argue that bitcoin will be the currency of choice for countries that do not have the economic stability to realistically have their own local fiat currency. I think it will replace the dollar in the regard that it is used as money in the poorest countries (but not as a world reserve currency).

Look at around you, and not the chart.
Are you seeing more and more bitcoin services and companies popping up everyday ? or is it shrinking ?

Look at who is working on Bitcoin now, this is the greatest indicator of tomorrow's adoption.

Bitcoin protocol is like a can of worms for the government. Once it is out, it creates all kind of problems with no way of reversing the trend.

This is just the early phase when governments around the world are forced to regulate and deal with bitcoin. Sooner or later, financial institution and banking/insurance industry will need to deal with bitcoin also or get left behind like dinosaur.

This is legit. What matters at the end of the day is merchant adoption. All markets are rigged, no exception. Whales manipulate it to get cheap coins, and pump it to sell more expensive coins. Price volatility is irrelegant. On a log scale, BTC only went up so went the % of adoption.

Don't worry, Bitcoin won't be suddenly used by everyone, it will take time, and its price will increase as its demand increases.

I'm one of the people that believes the price is dropping because merchants are immediately selling BTC that they are being paid in. Massively increases sell pressure without increasing buy pressure.

FIFY

More merchants accepting bitcoin will not do anything except make it easier to spend bitcoin that holders of bitcon already have. Consumer adoption on the other hand will increase overall demand for bitcoin as they will need to buy it in order to use/spend it.

Bitcoins act as seed capital, Bitcoins fuel and propel all the other crypto 2.0 technologies, decentralized companies, etc. It makes no sense sitting on Bitcoins. Bitcoins can potentially give you 1-10x returns over the next 5 years, keeping with inflation or not. But crypto 2.0 technologies and decentralized companies stock can potentially give you 10-1000x returns over the same period.

we need to bring btc to the mainstream

You can help by giving goods at services in exchange of BTC, while making a discount over other traditional payment methods. That way customers will be encouraged to use it. Like Newegg recently did.
