Title: Too many gizmos and doo-dads in some of the new coins
Post by: bitbets on August 21, 2014, 07:35:43 AM

I was sitting and reading about some of the new coins,

with all their gizmos and doo-dads, and gadgets.

Personally, I am NOT sold at all on all that stuff though.

I have to wonder about all that stuff creating backdoors for viruses and spying(not private like they say),

thefts etc....

Due to the mixed up ways they are trying to do the anon thing, therefore

they may obfuscate thieveries and stuff like that.

They are making their coins too mixed up! (at the same time, trying to portray as though their mixed up coins
are somehow greater than the invention of sliced bread )

Discuss

Seriously, way too puffed up in their imaginations.

There castles in the sky will likely come crashing down to earth eventually :)

LOL, maybe there are no more good ideas and gizmos and doo-dads are all that is left? Kind of like Hollywood movies, effects are first, the script is an afterthought  :)

But how can a coin succeed if it doesn't have the phrase "<coin> platform" somewhere in the OP? And how will anyone use it unless if also has built in chat?

lol love the subtle stab at XC - and yes I completely agree with you - lets develop every feature under the sun all at once - chat, phone, video, atms, anonymity  - dont worry - it will be top quality /sarcasm lol

Ah it wasn't meant to be a stab at them specifically - I was thinking about coins that have exchange "software" built into the Qt wallet (for what??) and shove an IRC client into it and call that revolutionary.

A lot of coins have new features that appeal to the crypto nuts, but rarely ever is a new feature geared towards making crypto simpler for new users. It's one big crypto feature circle-jerk.

I think the built in wallet features are more for the everyday user.

Notice how bitcoin hasn't adopted the new gizmos and gadgets?

If the gizmos and gadgets were so great, then why isn't bitcoin rushing to have those gadgets and gizmos?

Satoshi was the innovator. He's been replaced by a younger and brighter star!  ;)

I agree. A coin needs to be simpler and easier to use.
Those other gadgets are found in other areas of the internet, but we don't need them in our wallet.
Why would we need those gadgets in our wallet?

I disagree, the ultimate coin needs thingumajigs, thingamabobs, doohickeys, various whatchamacallits, doodads, gilhickies, and thingies.

To raise the value of the coin, then claim they are more innovative than others. Special features in a wallet tends to attract people to invest in the coin.

Since I posted this thread, I have found that I like POS coins that pay me for having coins in the wallet.

Still haven't even tried coins with all the gizmos and doodads though.

Haven't explored all the POS coins wallets, not at all,

but I like the Netcoin Net POS/POW paying interest in the wallet with PIR and OWI.

What other POS coins are there, that you think are a good buy right now?

Most of the "features" offered by new coins are nothing but bells and whistles that, for the most part, are of no real value.

I think Peercoin was the first hybrid POS/POW coin and it's still very popular. It lacks gizmos and doo-dads though. It's price has been fairly volatile this week and its gone down in price over the last few days. I'm not sure if it's a good buy right now, but it's not a pump and dump coin. It's unlikely to lose all its value overnight like some brand new coins.

Thank you for reminding me about peercoin, it was the first pos coin, so has a following I guess.

Never heard of bitswift, that is no surprise though, with so many coins being made these days.
