Title: Wallet won't sync Post by: recan86 on August 21, 2014, 09:52:42 PM Running Bitcoin-QT on OSx 10.9 and it is taking forever to sync. Been at it for weeks now. How can I make sure it is still syncing while i am not at my desk.
I have the computer automatically locked after a few minutes so my kids won't get on my account and I think this is the problem. QT takes a real long time to sync if you haven't don it yet. Sometimes I've had it take a long time even after it should've synced. I eventually just shut it down and reload and it should catch up.

Btw, you should use the bootstrap torrent for the initial sync. It will not update while I am away, any suggestions on how to fix this? See if your wireless/wired connection goes to standby when the machine is locked. You can see if the client is still downloading when you are afk under Help -> Debug Window -> Network Traffic. Set it to 5 minutes, hit clear, go drink a coffee and see if it did anything while you were gone. Since I have synched several times with Win7 and Linux Versions I suspect that it is something your OS does, e.g. make the connection "sleep" or something along those lines. I suggest keep downloading and look into cold storage for long term. What's your connection? Do you let your machine run 24/7? Is there some progress when you keep your cursor above the icon? You could go and download a full copy of the blockchain from some mirror, its' much faster!
