Title: The anonymity war is over. No one won. It is now the asset arms race.
Post by: TaunSew on August 24, 2014, 07:44:20 AM
The reason all the anonymity coins have dropped in value is because all the smart pump money has moved onto to asset coins like BitsharesX and NXT.  Things will be more interesting where, in six months from now, there will probably be at least a dozen "asset coins" with their individual token improvements on the concept.    ::)

It's all just flavor of the day in crypto.  Buy into the new hype, sell for a big profit if you're smart, or a loss if you're not, and then move onto the next one.

Asset coins won't succeed either. They are trying hopelessly but that's not the way how you go.
Indeed the anonymous coins did lose traction now, but I'm thinking that will change in the future.
It really depends on what features get added over time.

only people who win in any of these fads are the people that trade out to btc/ltc when everyones piling in  ;)

At least someone is brave enough to admit it.  The way coins like NXT and BitsharesX are structured makes them very popular among the speculative private funds.

A problem is presented:  We missed Bitcoin and our company needs to make money.
A solution is presented:  Here we have a coin which claims to be better than Bitcoin.  Let's throw money at them!

The flaw in this logic was Bitcoin was never intended to be an outright technological platform.  Who cares about replacing Wallstreet (like these asset coins want to do).  Replacing $Fiat is the critical issue on hand and the rest is all distraction.

Bitcoin was just a wallet / coin programmed in Satoshi's proverbial basement.  It was more an economic / social currency, in that anybody who wanted it was able to CPU mine it for free.  Later warped into this industry of have and have nots, hardware kings and corruption on the foundation (Karpeles was one of them if you may had forgotten).

It started as an alternative to the greedy bankers, til those in bitcoin became the greedy bankers   :-X

And now all the asset exchange "coins" want to add on wallstreet, the epitome of greed.  Just goes to show that crypto is all about money now and nothing more.

If there was an "anonymity war", Monero won it. Cryptonote is here to stay, you'll see the confirmation soon.
1 XMR = 0.00369341 BTC at moment of this post :)

Based on market cap, darkcoin still have the largest market cap among anon coins despite huge drop in price.

I personally think if there is a viable solution for anon feature, someone will develop a wallet to integrate the feature into bitcoin.

What are you talking about? Monero has been steadily dropping since it's pumped peak as well.

If it wasn't for NEM and REDD then in all honesty I wouldn't even be following alternates.   The alternate section is either full of $hitcoins (reskinned BTC) or all these coins engaging in anonymity or asset arm races where nobody wins.

Isn't NEM an 'asset coin' too just like NXT trying to imitate exactly the same idea to get a share of the pie?

please explain, thanks. also what makes REDD great? are these better than the rest?

There is the New Economy Movement that is on the way to make all altcoins including Monero obsolete. Mastercoin was an IPO stunt.

Why do you guys go for Monero advertisement here all the way?  It was debunked as inferior to Bitcoin earlier.

How will NEM make all altcoins obsolete? Saying it as a statement of fact, without presenting any evidence to support it, is silly. You can say "in my opinion" or "I believe" if you want to spew unverifiable nonsense.

This just in: carrots debunked as inferior to oranges! Also, where did this "debunking" take place?

I don't quite see the point in discussing facts. That's like discussing if or if not there's the law of gravity.

Are you in denial right now to protect your Monero investment?  Monero is inferior, it's a fact.

There is no discussion, I've asked you to present a single fact. You have yet to present a fact. You're presenting an opinion.

Are you in denial right now to protect your Monero investment?  Monero is inferior, it's a fact.

Again - not a fact. A fact is something indisputable as it is either directly observable or provable. For example, I could say "TaunGawk's opinion is irrelevant because it is clearly a sockpuppet account that was created a mere 4 hours ago." That is a fact, verifiable by observing your profile page coupled with the nonsense you're posting.

Until all this tech is closed source, and until people stop tossing money at it the coin du jour, the onslaught will continue.

Maybe it's not about the coins at all. Maybe it's all about the tech, and the learning that is going on.  The fact that Satoshi's coin is being cloned isn't what is interesting to me any more. What's interesting now is that Satoshi is cloning himself. The number of people who are innovating in this space is growing exponentially and I don't think we have good idea yet exactly what this means 1, 5, 10 years from now.

Soon Wall Street will try to pick a winner to serve their own purposes, and banks will buy in. Anonymity will never be part of the Wall Street anointed coin.

Truly, I don't see an end to this. I see it ramping.

I am not the smartest, but....

I think

anonymous coins are a fad

fads only last a while, and then they go away

A reason why this fad may fade, is because the real world financial sector

may begin to embrace non-anonymous coins, while rejecting anonymous coins,

and comes along with large amounts of investment dollars,

that anonymous coins miss out on,

and investors in anonymous coins then sell, and go looking to invest into coins that

are being invested into by the real world financial persons.

Anonymous coins would then be a smaller niche, than the larger categories that
the real world financial sector might invest into.

( they won't likely want to be associated in any way at all with criminal or black market )

Anonymity war is not over. Some coins are just few month old. so will last some time to at least basicly develop. But truth is some coins got some advantage already.
The need for anonymity coins will be here as long humanity will last.

Like no one uses CASH to pay, ahh right.

Maybe not in UK but here in germany its still a preferred payment method - we learned a shitload after east germany was occupied by Russia and the Stasi was spying on everything and everyone.
I guess some people also have to learn it the hard way.

Okay I'm not sure if this is worse or the people spreading FUD about Monero or DRK.
BitcoinDark will never succeed, it's wrong in so many levels. I don't even wanna look at it's anonymity, and I'm positive that it doesn't blow away the one from DRK nor Monero. BitcoinDark is just an attempt at stealing some fame from Bitcoin and from Darkcoin.
Stop stealing, make something unique for once.

Multi-national corporations are among the very first in line to adopt a technology that prevents their competitors, the government, and external auditors from observing their accounts on the blockchain. The criminal or black market is a drop in the ocean compared to MNCs. They are craving a way to surreptitiously move funds between continents to tax havens in a way that does not require huge forex hedges.

That having been said, I can fully agree with your last point about association - MNCs will want to use something that does not sound like they're inherently doing something illegal. They're unlikely to have line items in their quarterly income statement that contain the words "dark", "teleport", "stealth", or "cloak" unless the corporation in question is DARPA:-P

Qora will have a true AE in a week or two, maybe less. But I don't see any major move in the price. I don't believe in short term hype but I don't even see the hype when it comes to Qora which was before the coins that have been hyped recetly like Bitshares.

This just in: carrots debunked as inferior to oranges! Also, where did this "debunking" take place?

agreed this classification of coins i think are raw greedy scammyness.
and the starting point was why make them when we already had 100's of coins ?
they must have thought these coins were a better way to distribute coins.
So is it ?
Many of us simply laugh.. we know a scam when we see one.
These all were not made FOR the end user to get coins more fairly
they were created simply so the coin cloning dev can have complete control over IPO's etc.. G r e e d.

I can't imagine an objective 3rd party would stand by coins like NXT NEM Bitshares etc etc
over a traditionally distributed coin.. it just doesn't make sense
so i have no choice but to wonder what is wrong with all you guys supporting this shit..
FIRST off let start with a well known guy in crypto who had told me last couple years that the MOST IMPORTANT thing in crypto
is the marketing team and NOT the coin devs !
And yeah he "marketed" coins here and still does i think lol
So.. ? what is my point ?
the main function of Marketing Teams is to come tot his forum and say anything they can to sucker in fucking idiots into buying.
FACT !
So what is said around here doesn't mean much.

So lets get back to the chat then.. hahhah
Does it defeat and replace Bitcoin ? No ? Then it failed /the end.
OR..
It's a scam.. for as one of the biggest coin cloners in all of crypto once said he clones coins "for fun and profit"
So while you are being bullshitted like crazy that XYZ scam coin is the bitcoin killer..
THE DEV is laughing with his "fun and profit" while cloning.. all the way to the bank.

clones coins "for fun and profit" are scams .
coins like these were talking about made by guys who know damn well they will not overtake bitcoin
are nothing but a vehicle for Bitcoin profits.. a scam from IPO day one !
Every guy in crypto wants to make money but many are just interested in an excuse to post a new coin so they can be the IPO leader
and then they can hang around clutching their bag bullshiting people like crazy with their moronic hype and games and and shit coin defense semantics.

ALL SCAMS !
- Monero
- BitShares X/Y/Z
- NXT
- NEM
...

keep playing dumb.. it's working beautifully so far  ::)
you scammy assholes have killed the Altcoin scene pretty bad driven people away and have contributed to beating Bitcoin itself down in value.
Greed is a hell of an addictive motivator.. it will make you hire marketing teams to lie and argue and troll and fight and sucker in new ponzi schemes victims of course.
Problem is all these greedy guys who cook up a new excuse to make and post a new coin will drain the whole scene to the last penny.
Change account names make more dumb bullshit.. play dumb.. argue troll fight.. and rinse and repeat..
While beating down the reputation of Bitcoin in the process  ::)
What is more stupid than making shit coins to cash out to BTC for Lambo'z Profits when your Altcoin is making BTC worth less ?
That is like starting a business to pay yourself a salary so you can employe yourself to sit around and burn your own money with a lighter all day..
MORONS.  ::)

So there you have it.. MY opinion (the correct one) ~~ Pimp Spoetnik™ has /spoeken

Looks like a quick cash in scam based on Bitshares....only to be expected, sadly.
The devs are oviously hoping that people buy in before they notice that it isn't actually BitShares.
Even sadder...the wallet appears to be a straight NXT 1.1.6 copy, so it's just an outdated NXT clone and not based on BitShares code at all.
(Disclaimer: I havent actually d/led the wallet...I'm way too paranoid for that)

I'll give this an 'avoid like the plague' rating.
Be interesting to see where the trade volume is coming from.

they must have thought these coins were a better way to distribute coins.

MORONS.  ::)

So there you have it.. MY opinion (the correct one) ~~ Pimp Spoetnik™ has /spoeken

LOL Spoetnik, I have to agree it's so hard for people that come here to spot good coins from the bad.

So here is my tip guys, don't buy Guldencoin because it's not a scam or PnD and has a dedicated dev team that only focuses on one coin. Yes I don't expect you to believe me :)

why ? i dunno i was just on a roll so i went with it lol
I'm going to ask you nicely to take a second look at it. Go through the posts, do your research.
I don't want you to fall victim to the stories that the Bytecoin shills tell people around here.
Monero is not a scam! Watch your words.  :P
 :)

well if i was trying to call out XMR for being a scam i woudl have posted a WALL of text about it i am sure ;)
sorry for FUD'ing Monero with my short half joking comment guys i should prob watch my mouth a bit lol
i find it funny how people around this forum never get that i am joking around constantly hahha
no matter how blatant i joke around about something there is always some guy here that takes me serious  :D

i try not to pick on coins and their supporters unfairly.
usually all i can do is say something looks fishy.. such as on exchanges.
and that is often a separate issue all together..
something can look fishy.. by perception which is independent from the facts !
For example Cryptsy comes to mind on that point..
I have said a LOOOOOOOT of shit over last 13 months looks fishy with them (and pretty much all major exchanges)
and those guys running it have often taken that as i have proof of their scams.. but i chose my words carefully *usually.
and saying something LOOKS fishy is fair and honest.. it does not mean someone is guilty of anything
..it's just pointing out a perspective of sorts.
A transition period that means we need more info.

Well I'm just trying to be nice to you here. Spreading FUD is a bad thing, and such an user is usually hated.
I understand you, and it is okay when you write 'bad things' about bad coins. You have my support and keep doing that.
Indeed there has been fishy activity in the past and there will be probably in the future too.
