Post by: mnporter2001 on August 24, 2014, 05:46:22 PM

It makes less and less over its lifetime, so eventually it'll make nothing.

Yes the estimate is 0.0635 the first week, unless it takes you a few weeks to get it then you will make less for your first week.

Then every week you will make less and less.  You are already a miner so you know this, nothing new.

The 0.45 total is an estimate of the total BTC the device will make over its entire useful life.

So basically if you pay more than 0.45 BTC for the device you will probably lose money.

And note that these numbers assume your electricity is free.  If you have to pay for electricity then you would have to take that into account also.

Look at coinwarz it is easy to find out and put in electricity cost.  It's great for current earnings.

There are exceptions but in general mining never gives you a positive ROI in BTC.  If the price of BTC goes up enough then you may see a positive ROI in fiat.

Why would anyone sell it for less than they could make by keeping it?

well at free power

20% diff an s-3 mining today does about 0.58 btc   at 10 cents a kwatt    .31 btc

15% diff  "   "        "        "       "       "    0.77 btc    at 10 cents a kwatt     .42 btc

14% diff ----------------------------------- 0.84 btc    at 10 cents a kwatt    .45 btc

13% diff ------------------------------------0.90 btc    at 10 cents a kwatt   .49 btc

12% diff ------------------------------------0.99 btc    at 10 cents a kwatt  .53btc

11% diff ------------------------------------ 1.09btc    at 10 cents ------------.58 btc

10% diff--------------------------------------1.19btc     at 10 cents -----------.64 btc.

9%  diff------------------------------------- 1.34btc   at 10 cents ------------- .70 btc

so  if you mine today with free power maybe 1 btc

if you mine at 10 cents a kwatt maybe   .55btc

this assumes    btc stays at 515 usd a coin
