Title: How to 1/10 of a bit coin to give a friend who never used bitcoins? Post by: maxlee on August 25, 2014, 03:00:21 PM If I want to give a friend 1/10 of a bitcoin, (he has never used bitcoins so does not have a wallet), can I just send it through email to him, he then later register a wallet to get the gift from me? Or does he have to get a wallet first? I want it to be a suprise to him so would be great no to tell him to get a wallet first.

There are also services such as coinapult and coinbase that allow you to send bitcoins to an email address. I think if the bitcoins are not redeemed within a period of time, they are returned to you. Post by: Dare on August 25, 2014, 05:10:21 PM send him a paper wallet. https://www.bitaddress.org/ I'm not sure sending a paper wallet via email is a good idea, unless his email is set up very securely and the message (or at least the wallet) is encrypted. I recommend using Coinbase to send him the bitcoin, though if you don't want to use any third-party services then an encrypted paper wallet is probably the best way to go. I would let him get to know it by getting a wallet then having the fun of seeing wallet go from 0 to having something in it. He gets to learn about wallets and a little about bitcoin whall you do it. When you give him the details for the paper wallet you could also explain exactly what it is and how he should use it and such. Due to him being totally new to bitcoins I would imagine he would need a lot of help to understand.

IMO, it is better for you to create the wallet together with your friend, and show him how to send bitcoin and keep his bitcoin safe. |
