Title: Seasonic X-1250 PSU for S3 mining
Post by: jtoseski on August 26, 2014, 06:07:34 AM
Hi everyone,

I've just ordered two Antminer S3's (Batch 8 ) and am in the process of selecting an appropriate power supply to run both of them simultaneously.

After my initial research I was leaning towards the Seasonic X-1250. However, I've just read in some threads recently that Seasonic are a bit deceptive with amperage ratings of the 12V rail. Does anyone have experience with Seasonic PSU for Antminers that can give me any guidance as to whether this PSU can handle both S3's?

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated  :)

The Seasonic will easily run 2 and could even handle 3 if not overclocked.

Seasonic pretty much OEMs for 1/2 the big name brands (Antec, Coolermaster, EVGA) - not sure where you're getting the deceptive FUD from.

DrG is correct, they also OEM for Corsair - one of the best. A 1250 is probably a bit overkill for 2 x S3's though tbh, I use a Corsair RM1000 for each pair of OC'd S3's and they perform excellently without breaking into a sweat.

With the other thread bloated for the most part with this particular topic (already up to 300 pages and counting), this one deserves its own thread because...???

Is it just me or is it the self-entitlement mentality that kids nowadays have no shortage of?

nahh most likely   you are like me a bit cranky some days.

what really amazes me is no one wants to read the threads.

I spends hours reading threads.  you can really learn a lot of shit.  good shit.

SeaSonic is the shit. I love them.

Side note: I'm running two OC'd S3s on a Rosewill Capstone 750-M. It pulls 850W from the wall. I wouldn't recommend it, but you don't need a 1250W PSU to run two ants.

I don't think so.  I was already on my second glass of Cabernet when I did my OP...so I was already pretty Mellow Yellow then.  However, the prevalence of self-entitled deeds and acts of the reality-show generation nowadays never cease to amaze me and therefore fascinate me.

Very much this.  Somewhere in the mess of 300 pages you'll find a tip that will make your miners 5% more efficient, cut down on crashes or just make your life easier.  Since mining is competitive I am always willing to help new users but I don't give away all the secrets - that's reserved for people who put in the effort.

Seasonic is a good power supply, if you are only putting 2 s3 you can pretty much overclock it.
