Title: 360 seconds limit is annoying
Post by: Allphonic on August 30, 2014, 05:11:25 PM
I just lost a huge, long post that I wrote!
Ok, new users should be throttled, but please don't delete all the post content!

Yes, it is but if you press back in your browser your post is still intact. That had happened with me a lot of times.

Just press back, but the problem is if you click back and directly click post again, it will tell you the post has already been made. You have to fully refresh the thread and click reply again, and paste in the info. I hated being a newbie :P

Yeah, most decent browsers will remember what you input in the box, but there are browsers that just forget everything you typed (looking at you, Firefox). Which is one of the reasons I don't use Firefox anymore.

I think firefox does it for security purpose to protect your data, like going back on passwords and etc.  Thats why they are the most respected browsers.

Overall it's a good thing prevents spam.  But a lot of us have felt pain when starting up here i would write and paste in if your browser is not saving it.

Is there any way to disable that "feature", though? I do get that people are stupid, don't end their sessions, keep tabs open, don't use private browsing, etc. But what if I decide that I don't want to be treated as someone incapable of taking care of things?

It's a smart rule to prevent new users spamming all the forum with links and ads, it shouldn't be removed.

Yes, I agree! Also the combination with the activity level basically needs you to be active for more than two weeks in order to post quite regularly. The system is fine as is currently is. People new to Bitcoin will survive the phase if they're truly interested!

Dont worry, it gets less annoying when you move up in rank.

It takes about 2 weeks at most to be a jr member i think.

I think it is a nice way to keep forum clean

I use Firefox and prefer it this way. I prefer no data to be kept under any circumstances once a page is submitted. The dumber you are about security, the better this is for you (re: "back" in browser).

Anyway, even though my posts don't get throttled at this point, once I start writing a post of a certain length, I start copy/pasting it into a Notepad document just in case....

I agree with you. If it wasn't that limit the number of spam posts ,the promoting of sites etc would be very high .

I have reached the 360 limit today and was sort of "wtf" but now I understand that it can be useful versus spam and bots.

Yes it is annoying.  The weird thing is that logging in counts as a "post."  That tripped me up early sometimes.  The good news, as others have pointed out is that it goes away by itself and does help keep the boards cleaner.

Well, since the activity (which the rank is based on) can only go up by a maximum of 14 every two weeks, you can only have an activity of 14 after 2 weeks. If you've already posted 28 posts, you can achieve an activity of 28 after 15 days...

Yeah, but on the other hand it really is a giant pain for the regular person using a browser when the whole form has to filled out a second (or third ::)) time! It just makes your browsing experience a lot worse!

You can see a list of your recent posts, edits and messages on the Drafts page: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=drafts
Most likely, your post was saved there, even if it wasn't posted.

Also, I moved your thread to the Meta forum.

I think it's not annoying
It's just to prevent spam / someone post  a lot to get paid (signature-ad campaign)

When you become jr. member there are not 360 second limit anymore

I'm not saying to remove the time limit, which, has sense for new users, but, yesterday, I wrote a very long topic and then, poof! Gone! (using Firefox)
