1 uBTC = 1 micro BTC = 0.000001BTC = 1 x 10^-6 BTC
1 mBTC = 1 miliBTC = 0.001 BTC = 1 x 10^-3 BTC
1 Satoshi = 0.0000001 BTC= 1 x 10^-8 BTC

Satoshi is the smallest fraction of Bitcoin.

Standard metric denominations
1 mBTC (10^-3) and 1uBTC (10^-6)
You can even coin your own denominations, like KBTC (10^3). :)

The smallest unit is a satoshi. Everything else is an amount of satoshi (sat).

100 sat = 1 uBTC
100.000 sat = 1 mBTC
100.000.000 sat = 1 BTC (you are a multi-millonaire  ;))

Of course, you can also write it the other way around

1 uBTC = 0.00000 100 BTC
1 mBTC = 0.00 100000 BTC

This shows us how badly we need the whole world to switch to bits! If people in a Bitcoin forum don't get simple decimal (si) fractions, how is Bitcoin supposed to gain ground in the general public. It's just too complicated this way, it seems!

Indeed, I don't get why so many people are having some much trouble handling the SI prefixes.

We use "B", "KB", "MB", "GB", "TB" everyday, and we use "mm", "cm", "m", "km", everyday.
Why are we having problem in bitcoin units when there are only 3 of them, "uBTC", "mBTC" and "BTC"?

How about not using them at all? I prefer BTC and I hate that I need to calculate back and forth between different denominations.

yes i prefer to call that 10k satoshi , 100k satoshi than uBTC and mBTC

I'm with kanggoroo.  There are too many threads on this confusion and on the bits idea.  Just save yourself the trouble and think in satoshi.  So much easier and saves a step.

For real transactions of goods and service (from a cup of coffee to a Lamborghini), I think it is okay to stick with "BTC".
For microtransactions (eg. faucets), I think it is better to use "satoshi" instead of 6 zeros after the decimal point IMO.

u (miu) is called micro, it is in relative to M (million), 1u=1x10^-6
m (mili) is called mili, it is in relative to k (kilo), 1m=1x10^-3
There are some other metrics, such as
n (nano) is called nano, 1x10^-9
G (giga) is called Giga, 1x10^9
p (pico) is called pico, 1x10^-12
T (tera) is called Tera, 1x10^-12

they are all scientific metrics

If we should indeed go higher when it comes to the Bitcoin price, you wouldn't want to denominate a coffee in BTC anymore! It would cost you 0.00061 BTC or something, people will get really confused by that. Going with bits is the best way to go in my opinion!

BTC and satoshi are all you need to know.  Yes it is just scientific notation but so few people use the decimal ones other than mili due to drink cans that they are just lost.  Bits wont help, hell some people from the USA may think it's half a quarter.

"Bits" is just a slang name for µBTC (microbitcoin).  The value is exactly the same.

If you don't like the slang name "bits" then invent a new slang name and popularize it in your community.  Perhaps call them microbits, micros, or mikes, or micks, or you-bees.  The name really doesn't matter as long as its in common enough use to avoid confusion.
