Title: Custom FPGA Board for sale
Post by: IsaacDestruction on August 31, 2014, 09:40:38 PM
I have been working with 2 other members of the bitcoin community to develop a custom FPGA mining board. Our goal was a quiet, efficient, highly profitable platform for bitcoin mining… with a much lower pricetag than previous FPGA boards.

https://ip.bitcointalk.org/?u=http%3A%2F%2Flh4.ggpht.com%2F-X9trDy0Z9IE%2FTk0rIrKkSKI%2FAAAAAAAAAYM%2FlVss4ZKsCcM%2FIMG_1077_thumb.jpg%3Fimgmax%3D800&t=543&c=eAIycKOMBPpNqw

We have made and tested a prototype with pool mining. With the most recent program it gets 100 MHash/s and uses 6.8W of power. In the future we expect incremental improvements to the mining speed due to better software. You can see from the Mining Hardware Comparison that our custom board is far better than the commercial FPGA alternatives in terms of $/Mhash.

The primary members of this FPGA team were:
fpgaminer, USA, Engineer
li_gangyi, Singapore, Electronics Hobbyist
newMeat1, USA, Engineer

We also want to thank makomk for his contributions to optimizing the code and NF6X for his advice on communication interfaces. It is a testament to the global nature of the bitcoin community that we were able to bring together such great talent from across the world.

Check out Li’s blog on the development of the board for more pictures!

We have 4 boards for sale at this moment. The cost is $440, to be paid in BTC. Shipping costs will be added. We do international shipping—please message me if interested and we’ll work out the details. Up-front payment is required to cover our hardware costs. The boards will ship within 7 days after receipt of payment.

In the next few weeks, we will be putting together a bulk order, so don’t worry much if you miss out on this initial batch.

What do you need to run these boards on your computer?
•   An open USB port
•   An open 4-pin Molex power connector. Most computers have an extra one or two of these inside (my PC has 4!)

•   Download and install Xilinx's free ISE software, here
•   A Xilinx Platform Cable- we recommend eBay to get it cheap
•   Operating system: Windows, Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS and SUSE Linux Enterprise are supported
o   Other versions of Linux may work, but no guarantees

We'll be posting a walk-through soon about how to set up the board. If you got the bitcoin client running, you shouldn’t have any problems setting up the FPGA board

Wait, what?! Did you just mention MTGOX like they were still in business? Looks like you haven't been up to date with the news.

I'm not sure what you're talking about exactly, I don't see anything about mtgox

I'm sorry to be the first to inform you but MTGOX is no longer with us......

He quoted you before you edited your post, I assume, just look at red highlighted text in your own quote.

This is copied from a 2011 thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=37904.0
He must have taken out the MtGox part in the first 5 minutes after he posted(known as the grace period), that's why there's no dotted line under the timespamp.

Edit: Fixed typo, added more details.

Too bad FPGA is outdated for mining. Back in 2011-2012 before asic mabey. He must be on BFL time table. Just so the OP is clear on this FPGA is what was used between graphics cards and present day asics. They are worth about $4.00 not $440 at the present time. Also 100 Mhash, you need about 500gh just to make 0.01 a day now on most pools, and thats decreasing quickly. This guy thought he did some kind of futuristic reasearch so he could scam us. WOW.

Ztex 1.15y are still selling new from their shop at this price, but they are hashing @ 850 MH (not profitable, anyway).

Unfortunately, unless this particular FPGA could mine scrypt @ 100MH with the advertised 6.8w, it's almost worthless for mining now.

Is this just a bad scam with real lack of imagination and knowledge of what is actually used as mining hardware?

I'll take 500X of them at the current weighted Mt.Gox avg. price :p

Gotta say, this thread is pretty funny.  Nice catch on the copy/paste of 2011 thread!
