From a reddit post (ELI5 answer) "Someone hacked iCloud. He posted a list of all the celebs he had and leaked some. Unconfirmed reports that he is selling them to TMZ for six figures. There's videos too. Also there's a pic circulating of the leakers bitcoin address with tens of thousands worth of bitcoin sent to it."

So guys? What are your thoughts? Mine are that he is taking advantage (which is smart) of this currency! Finally people seeing the benefit (even though it's in a bad way, but can also be used for good)

That's too bad. Actions like this may provoke more people against bitcoins and other hackers are probably looking for similar targets like this now.

He hasn't. He tried to sell them to TMZ but then gave some away and posted his btc address and people donated. Maybe he might try sell the rest for bitcoins though but that's just speculation.

tens of thousands  ;D It is only   0.25 btc . But it is  always money .

Are you sure that's the right one? I think others are trying to claim to be him to recieve donations. One wallet I saw earlier had recieved over 1k donations in a very short space of time.

Hmm, I wonder how he found the individuals pictures though? Surely there are millions of images on icloud, but what were these people doing uploading their pics to there in the first place?

Apple include icloud in all phones  (and mac now) ... in Android, the google drive is a optional (and need to download manually) app.
Password of icloud system (user) is, like other, very simple if you known the email adress of the "star".

At the end, if you don't want send private document to others ... use MMS !  ;D

More bad press for bitcoin if the media picks up on the bitcoin angle. I wonder if he'll manage to sell the rest. Those videos could go for a lot of they're legit.

Saw something about this hacking earlier on but I did not pay much attention to it. I think it's quite shocking that people will do this and attempt to cash in on it but that is the way people work nowadays if they know they can make some cash they will do what they can.

It's only natural btc will be used for this kind of stuff. Better than paypal at least. I don't think btc will get a bad rep from this though.

The problem of this "fappening" archive is more a DROPBOX (a PDF of getting started founded) opened system than a really hack of the icloud of Apple ...

Strange too, the picture have been cleaned for all EXIF tag (like GPS tag include from iPhone camera process) and name not indicate a real phone device source (and post picture traitment, too).

I don't think the rest of the pics will be released. It seems the leaker was already doxed, there was some convincing evidence posted online earlier today. The accused person immediately deleted all their accounts, so I guess we'll see. (if it was this guy, he took almost no precautions before dumping these pictures and was absolutely bound to get caught)

That sucks. This is not the aim of bitcoin. Hope hackers are traced and jailed.

There was no actual breach, more of people using weak passwords. Anyone with a strong password or two factor would be unaffected. It's more likely another service was compromised and they used the same passwords for iCloud.

They probably did. Those celebrities though. Gotta carry about their internet security a little bit more now.

The sheer incompetence and complete disregard for end user security demonstrated by Apple on this is simply inexcusable. The torrent which was posted in Piratebay is getting downloaded like crazy. Right now 25,000 people downloading it. And check the comments, they are funny.  ;D

It's been easier for hackers and illegal doer's performing their activities online due to bitcoin.While it do have a positive side as well people are not gonna talk on it but negative.One more stain has been added to bitcoin  ::)

Actually, he didn't do it for BTC. That was just a rumor.

The guy who put up his BTC address was just trying to raise money, he himself said "I'm not the hacker, I'm a collector"

He wasn't the hacker, he just wanted to leak those pics and put his BTC address at the bottom

Bitcoin does not help hackers doing their illegal actives at all. It provides a somewhat anon method of selling their services and profiting from hacking, but bitcoin does not in any way facilitate hacking.

It is ironic that the person who actually posted the pictures has made very little money off of posting the pictures.

I've just realized that a hd version of "How to train your dragon" is out , far more "entertaining" than a bunch of pics which are turning one after one to be fakes.

One of the best ways to promote something is to make rumor about it. Now combine the rumor with celebrities. The result: People will be too curious to find out what bitcoin is.

I'd bet anything you would change your mind if  you had 100btc. having 100btc is much better than a 5 minute romp any day.. i don't care who it is. Think about it, the exact same outcome (pun intended) would be the same..

I don't want to be cold water, but there is a lot of people who would pay more than 100 BTC to have those melons in their mouth, such as me. hahaha
