Not new, but interesting and somewhat related to bitcoin / trading.

Committed anti-documentarian. Too much BS too consistently - worse than television news, I'd guess, and it's led to more than a couple humiliations while functioning as if I can even believe high-budget documentaries without fact-checking. People start filming with the goal of making a point and quit caring if facts get in the way mid-way through - they already devoted 500+ hours and tens of thousands of dollars. I just do the online research now instead of doing it later to fact-check after spending time watching a film. Videos in general take too much in resources to make well, so I assume if something's in video format, it's horseshit.

I like to watch documentaries with my daughter because they are thousands of times better than the cartoons for her.

Well for anyone here who did not see any Michael Moore docu, please see one. Just one and you will surely get hooked. Maybe the best docu ive seen is 911 Fahrenheit and The Cove. The cove was great. Its about the killing of Dolphins in Japan. Have to see that too!

Depends what documentary It is and some documentaries are mockumentaries only.

Yeah, I like a good documentary, but I can't stand those 'modern' documentaries where everything has to be all techy and seemingly analyzed by computers. I enjoy reports on islands, interesting destinations, other cultures, cities, or just jobs you usually don't know a lot about.

I can't imagine anyone hating on documentaries so long as they they are on topics of their interest.

some documentaries are more entertaining to me than most movies. the best one i've seen recently was "the act of killing." it's interesting in that it shows you the perspective of mass murderers and how their actions affect their mental state.


documentaries can serve political agendas.. there are plenty of them that try to prop both liberal and conservative ideologies. for republicans, look up "danesh d'souza" he spreads a lot of fud. and i'm pretty sure the conservatives here do not like michael moore.

Specially documentaries from BBC, they really have high quality documentary program.

I like documentaries, depends on the topic. But some documentaries repeat their points and commentary so much that a 1 hour documentary can easily be squeezed into half an hour.

well, let's say you are a republican.. and you are interested in the topic of healthcare. if you watched a michael moore movie, you'd hate the shit out of it. i'm not saying who is wrong or right.. but you'd easily end up hating "sicko" as a documentary.

A really eye opener is food inc, which most already know.

But watch Divorce Corp, a billion dollar industry on divorces here in the U.S and you`ll be amazed the divorce rates compared to other countries.

I really like documentaries, if they are well done and not "mockumentaries". I especially like those with few/no comment /special effects where original pictures speak for themselves. Unfortunately most documentaries are as crappy as hollywood movies. But there are some really good ones from independent filmmakers (often in movie length).

I don't know if they qualify as documentaries, but I love the series, how it's made, they explain you step by step how candles, bullets, gums, lipsticks, cocacola, blades, etc. is made, the present these videos which are 4-5 minutes long, you can find them all on YouTube as: How it's made.

From the top of my head I really enjoyed Food Inc, a big eye opener into the industry. I knew the conditions of animals were bad, but seeing it documented was disgusting.

I really enjoy watching documentaries, you can leart a lot from them, since universe documentaries, science, history and battles are the best ones.

I'm fond of documentaries in theory, but the junk passing itself off as documentary material on the History Channel is a bit of a turnoff. There have been cases were the "experts" involved distanced themselves from the History Channel because its producers twisted what they said to support their own opinions and not the real facts of the case.

There was a similar one called "Fast Food nation" I think, horrible to see, it's the reason I stopped eating cattle meat.

I love documentaries, albeit most of the time I'm saddened by what I've learned. Of all the documentaries I've ever seen there is one that stands alone. It changed my life and the way I look at the world.

The food inc one is really good. I think that changed on how eat trying to make a serious change in that.

Which one is the mcdonalds one, I forgot what it was called something fast food.

But he goes like on a mcdonalds eating spree and displays how he actually loses weight eating that garbage.

There's one on Netflix called WEEDS. Talks about how weed got it's label as the devil's plant throughout the years. Interesting stuff but there are some conspiracy theorycrafting in it.

I love watching documentaries, like the ones they make about space travels and other planets and stuff. I am currently watching world wars and I am loving it.

I only watch sports and documentaries on my TV, I don't like the films in general.

I get bored sometimes during normal movies a bit, so a good informative documentary is always a good bet. I read books and have read them since I was a little kid and I just hunger for more information all the time.

Some documentaries succeed because the people in them are so interesting. It doesn't even matter if you care about the subject matter, if you get some real characters and film them, the doc will be entertaining.

I may have watched one or two documentary which I can't remember but I might watch any good documentary when I have nothing to watch.

I like the documentaries which speak about the life in the ocean, sea or lakes.

Sometimes, i like 50% fiction and 50% docs.

It really bores me out when the doc is about the wildlife (no offense). It makes me sleep. But yeah, I love the cove.

I love to watch documentaries about science and  planets.

You can learn a lot of info watching documentaries, about history, war, technology, science, nature... etc...although sometimes a good movie is not that bad, I was watching a documental about UFOs.

Documentaries are the best, they are informative and some really show the truth as it is especially investigative type documentaries.

Some documentaries are somewhat boring but the docus which are about WWII, Holocaust, Lions eating something alive, Politics - These docus are great. And I prefer to watch Nat Geo Docus than HBO or Discovery Channel.

The Zeitgeist documentaries are really good, specially 2 and 3, and incidentally the guy that did them is working on a live action (as in non documentary but movie type of thing) piece now.

I personally like documentaries.  I especially like ones about wars, or about the marines. Or about technology.

And the many who serve are blind and bought out by the gov. for cheap. If they did their homework, they would work for private military co. that does the same line of work but better pay.

The best documentaries for me are those about space/aliens or illuminati/13bloodlines world conspiracy type tinfoil hat stuff..

It depends on what the documentary is about , i personaly like to watch real world war 2 documentarys or behind the scenes on drug dealers and street life...other action things as other wars and conflicts

I think for me, it depends on who narrates it. I've watched some boring topics, but the narrator was so good, I thought it was amazing. Then again, I've watched some topics that interest me, but the narration was just god awful.

Documentaries from BBC are the best, I really enjoy it.

Rarely, watching most of the things that humans have produced is a waste of time. Unless you're trying to satisfy that need for entertainment that a human has.
Despite of what I said, there are some very interesting and useful things (rare) that are worth the view.

Certainly .Just watched Aaron Swartz - The Internet Boy this week. And was one of the best documentaries I have watched.

Mainstream documentaries are more like reenactments. The better documentaries (mainly older ones) are more investigative journalism I think.

The majority of documentaries are full of speculation and disinformation, so I don't enjoy them as much as I had as a teenager. It's especially bad when it comes to conspiracy documentaries. Let me guess, blame the Freemasons and the incredibly vague "New World Order." You've really got to shift through the dirt to find an objective documentary with real substance.

Searching YouTube for 'documentary' only brings up these kind of shows.

After watching planet x and the annunaki i got scared and watched planet x debunked, the balance of good and evil has been restored, its all disinfo for reasons i care not about.

Factual documentaries about our planet and the amazing animals who share it are the best imo

Louie Theroux's stuff on American culture was amusing.

For wildlife stuff I loved Alby Mangels.  A quite legitimate explorer without a crew following him around.  Done in late 70's/early 80's.  He caught a lot of stuff on color film that might no longer exist.  There was an episode where he revisited a village many years later and the missionary's had come through and everyone wore old thrown out western clothing and became beggars.

I love Blue Planet. The sea is just so fascinating!

While I enjoy some of the topics and titles that some have posted, I really think you can't go wrong when living in a relative free place to check out those documentaries that have been done on North Korea which you can easily find on youtube. I do watch many documentaries. Mostly space and history related but generally everything.

I tend to refrain from watching documentaries from big American channels like CNN/history channel/discovery channel...There are mostly shitty (especially when it comes to history) and really low level full of repetitions and words/topics that sell to low level audience.

Lately i watched most of the new works of David Attenborough like Africa, Galapagos... and i was in awe.

lol i looked  the thread and i see many saying that they like history channel. Come on guys...Really find a subject you saw on history channel and watch the same subject on a BBC documentary...

Well, first of all I do not know if everything has been explained. I still don't know about many facts from the past. It is hard to explain how Egyptian pyramids were build if you read something more about their history some facts are just really off.

Ancient Aliens is stupid. It isnt documentary. It is just a bunch of guys telling stories and myths. People there are nothing but bloggers and writers of shit tier books. Zero scientists. And many times one story is against another story being played there.

And if you have questions about Egyptian Pyramids feel free to ask. I am fascinated about ancient Egypt and willing to do some basic research. Historians have some pretty good theories of how they did it and it doesnt require Aliens. Thats the beauty of it. It is great not because it is difficult to be done today but because it is extremely difficult to be done with the mathematics, engineering and logistics skills they had back then. With very primitive technology.
