Title: Recomendations for mining programs - Newbie Post by: crazyduck12 on September 01, 2014, 12:59:53 PM So I know you shouldn't mine with a laptop but I just want to see if it works and how mining works for a little bit. Can you even mine with a laptop?
I tried using BFGminer but couldn't get it to work. It wasn't hashing (I think it is called) but there was other numbers on the program going up and down which I didn't know what was happening. I know I have pointed it to the pool properly because I get things saying that it has detected a new block in pool 0, but I am unable to mine. Is it down to mining on a laptop, or me incorrectly setting up the software. I was trying to mine terracoins in a pool. What I really need is a step by step guide and reccomendations for programs to mine with. Obviously I can't mine bitcoins with a laptop so I am trying altcoins for fun. I also can't use CGminer as my security software doesn't allow me to run it. Any advice for a newbie? If this doesn't make sense then it is probably because I don't even know what I am asking! I started mining with my laptop with radeon 5470 and i got 17kh/s, which is nothing and is not even worth mining.
Anyway I was using GUIminer and later CGminer. Title: Re: Recomendations for mining programs - Newbie Post by: notlist3d on September 02, 2014, 09:04:24 PM Could you ... yes on cpu. GPU depends on what is in it. But should you no not really. I would get a block erupter (cheapest miner i know of) off ebay and lean to mine with it if you are wanting cheapest way to learn.
But a lot of the new miners there isnt a lot of learning they are easy to setup all in one units. Just set it up and let it go. GPU days are gone for most that is what took a LOT of time to get perfect rate. |
