Title: Deleting the avatar
Post by: Professor James Moriarty on September 02, 2014, 12:55:05 AM

I know that we can not change our avatar anymore but is it possible to delete it at least?

Theymos has stated he'll remove them for people who don't want theirs anymore, but he won't change it. Best PM him or Badbear.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to remove an avatar from their profile. The fact that adding/changing avatars has been disabled for some time now makes them prestigious and adds a level of "bling" to accounts that have an avatar, no matter how tacky/bad the avatar is.

Having an avatar (among other things) adds value to your account. I've seen worse avatars than yours, take mine for instance. I put it on for a giveaway of an experimental coin that died days aftr it's launch. I didn't even receive the coins... Weeks after I logged in just to see that I couldn't change it anymore. But it's still not that bad since most people don't even know what it is about and asume it's something generic.

I think that an important reason does exist: at some time someone could want to stop endorsing some company/idea/association that he previously set as his avatar.
In my opinion I belive this is the reason why Theymos would accept to manually delete an avatar on request.

I am afraid you can't tinker with your avatar in any way. This option was disabled and only higher authority can do something about it. Switching images won't work...

Possible to remove, yes. I can't though. Theymos can, send him a curt pm asking (he doesn't need to know your life story). If he doesn't after say... 3 days send again. PM's can slip through the cracks easily if you get a lot (I get at least a dozen daily and I can't personally deal with everything, a lot don't even require an admin, and I'm sure he gets more). If he still doesn't respond he probably doesn't care enough, or  didn't have time to do it when you sent it. Could try offering to pay for his time, might move you up the queue, depends on how important it is to you.

Perhaps the admin needs to change a little something
