Title: New GLBSE/investment child forum in marketplace?
Post by: John (John K.) on April 14, 2012, 02:42:40 AM
There seems to be a flurry of new GLBSE threads springing up all over the place in the marketplace section. Would it be better to consolidate everything inside a new GLBSE or Investment child forum in the marketplace sub-forum?

Discuss.  :)

It would be easier to track GLBSE news if it was all grouped together.

Yeah, that was one of the reason why I proposed this. No more bumping/promoting to make their threads stay on first page in the immensely crowded marketplace subforum.

Up until now most GLBSE posts have had some link to Bitcoin -- either they were mining companies, or in some other way Bitcoin-related.

But over time (and probably sooner than later) GLBSE listings will not necessarily have much to do with bitcoin.  As a result, perhaps the conversations regarding listed companies and new issues should be guided towards the GLBSE forum?

Either way, at least some of those issues will be bitcoin related so a child forum in marketplace would be welcomed.  As was requested here:

I didn't knew there was a GLBSE forum LOL. However, that forum seems to be a bit lonely imo.

I wouldn't mind seeing a GLBSE sub-forum.   :)

it would be useful if each asset had a link to the bitcointalk thread for it.

marked.

I second a GLBSE sub forum, we do have the forum for GLBSE itself(at glbse.com) but as was mentioned this tends to be fairly quiet.

marked, there is already the ability for asset creators to add a link to a forum thread for their asset (they can even update it right now).

GLBSE forum down :( Nginx 504 bad gateway
Also you guy's are using 0.7.65 ... you know 1.0.15 is out right??
Then again maybe you're using the OpenBSD latest package for nginx or something.

Anyways +1 GLBSE and MPEX announce forum ftw

not the first the request for this. however in my first request i thought it should include all exchanges, bonds and even mining contracts. the rule it seems is you need 5 threads but this died and i never got much of a response from the staff. i would guess they want distance from glbse and the like but i dont know.

It's nothing about GLBSE in particular, I just don't like the idea of giving one specific company their own subforum. Doesn't seem fair to the others. I did like your idea better, a more general "Investment" type forum.

Personally I didn't respond because I don't agree or disagree, but wanted to see more discussion on it.

IMO "investment" is too generic. Stock exchange, traded stocks, etc. would be more suitable.

+1. This should not be limited to only glbse itself. Any other investment schemes/mining bonds could go in too I think. We should have more then 5 threads now including the glbse ones.

This should reduce the thread clutter in the marketplace subforum.

A quick skim of the first two pages in marketplace (past 7 days) shows 17+ threads that would fit. That is quite a few and maybe it is needed.

I think generic is better when it comes to naming subforums, makes for easier classification.

Yep. It is fairly time consuming to dig out those threads from the existing regular marketplace threads. We're surely expanding fast  ;D

Some are in the head Marketplace forum, some in Services, some in Lending. It's very hard to keep track of.

I agree that it should not be GLBSE-specific, especially given MPEx is gaining listings now too, plus there are other unlisted offers.

Perhaps a bitcoin-assets subforum

What do you guys think of an "assets" subforum to Lending? This seems like the most appropriate categorization, since buying an asset is similar to giving a loan.

Would that apply to bonds and other securities? Actually, either "securities" or "Stocks, Bonds, and Securities" might be good names for the subforum.

"Securities" would be a better name. I'll use that.

Quote
A security is generally a fungible, negotiable financial instrument representing financial value.[1] Securities are broadly categorized into:

debt securities (such as banknotes, bonds and debentures),
equity securities, e.g., common stocks; and,
derivative contracts, such as forwards, futures, options and swaps.

I like it, specific enough to not be confusing and covers them all nicely at the same time.

2 levels deep doesn't show up in the forum overview (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php)... also some investments there are not necessarily tied to "Lending" imho.
