Post by: cryptocoinsnews on September 02, 2014, 10:08:08 AM
Mozilla, the company behind the Firefox web browser and Firefox OS, recently launched its first smartphones in India for the affordable price of $33. The phone is known as the Intex Cloud FX, and it could do more for Bitcoin adoption in the developing world than any of the high-profile startups in Silicon Valley.

There will be cheaper solutions, like sending bitcoin through SMS with Nokia bricks.  But it is good publicity.

Legit. We need cheap technology that can handle Bitcoin wallets if we expect global adoption. Of course I dont expect Bitcoin QT to run on there, but lightweight wallets should work smoothly I think.

We might use a centralised Bitcoin payment company to process the payment. If that is the case, then a non smart phone can do that.

There are countries in Africa that already have most of their citizens using smart phones that are several generations of technology old. They use these phones for mobile payments. I don't see any reason why 3rd world countries need to use the latest and greatest in terms of technology or smart phones.

That is a smart looking phone and for the price you really can not go wrong. This could be a break through that bitcoin needs I will admit and if it means that people will have more control then I am all for it.

I wasn't aware that there were bitcoin wallet firefox apps. This could really help firefox push their own OS into the market which is dominated by iOS and Android. Also fantastic news for those who live in developing nations with high national currency inflation.

This is 33$ in India, while here in the US you can buy plenty of Androids at your local walmart for 30$

1ghz processor (nothing amazing) but it will get the job done for bitcoin wallets.

The electronics are generally cheaper in US than in other countries. Also, maybe they have to much of those in stock and just trying to get rid off them, hence the price. So the Firefox phone can still be the cheapest smartphone available in India.
