Post by: iluvpie60 on September 02, 2014, 12:46:02 PM
Morning!

Not sure if most people are up to date on this or not, but an interesting thing happened recently.

Over the past few months to years a group of hackers or hacker has been getting into celeb icloud accounts and brute forcing password guessing by basically using the "find my iphone" app or some kind of exploit.

Summary from article:
- Man claiming to be in charge of group of hackers who stole nude celebrity pictures is on the run
- Posted early on Monday morning to confirm his part in the hack
- Then thanked supporters before announcing he was changing location
- Another man, Bryan Hamade, 27, denied he was the source of the leak on Monday
- He tried to sell intimate pictures of Jennifer Lawrence in return for Bitcoin
- He posted images on Reddit and allegedly tried to sell them for $100 each
- But he was forced to deny that he was original hacker users identified him
- Admitted he had been an 'idiot' and that photo he had tried to sell was fake

1. This should show that more and more data NEEDS higher levels of encryption.

2. Apple is a namebrand everyone knows and the common person "usually" thinks it is a modern tech marvel.

3. Now that so many female celebs have been hacked will they be caught dead in an Apple advertisement?

4. Bitcoin donations were asked for and there was at least one other person involved who said they were "just a collector of pictures" and were asking for donations or they wouldn't release them.

5. Do you think this once again paints BTC in a bad light? I do and it is very annoying having BTC constantly thrown into random things. I get that obviously you would do BTC/altcoins for something like this to avoid getting caught or found. But it really gets annoying seeing dickheads make BTC look worse and worse. BTC was always seen by the masses as being used for drugs/prostitutes/gambling/shady shit and it obviously is used for those things on a small % of all transactions(just like fiat is also).

So in short, once again BTC is going to be put into some "shady shit" classification because the actions of a few hackers or collectors or whatever.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO HACK AND ASK FOR PAYMENT, FOR THE LOVE OF BTC, REQUEST PAYMENT IN DOGECOIN OR SOME BULLSHIT ALTCOIN INSTEAD THEN CONVERT TO BTC AT LEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't think this is a big problem for bitcoin, everybody who heard about bitcoin knows that it can be used in illegal transactions (Silk road, hacking and so on ...).
Apple or 4chan are the mainly targets at the moment.

If brute face was indeed used, how does encryption have anything to do with it?  All this really does is reinforce the importance of secure passwords and the misplaced trust in technology.

You trolling me by making up this is the sixth or so topic? In the first 4 pages all I see is one topic about this and it wasn't discussed in any real depth, and I don't think there are anymore in the next few pages as this just happened recently.

If you are going to ask me if I am trolling by making the "sixth or so topic" at least 1. Be correct about it and 2. Add something useful to the discussion maybe?

Doesn't this just emphasise the fact that you should not keep sensitive data on your phone and make sure you only backup essential items like your contacts and backup your photos on your computer instead.
