Title: HP Computer
Post by: TizzyTazzy on April 15, 2012, 12:45:51 AM
EDIT: No longer selling here, use eBay if you would like to buy.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-ProBook-6460b-QY530US-14-LED-Notebook-Core-i5-i5-2540M-2-6GHz-/170824973884?pt=Laptops_Nov05&hash=item27c5f63e3c#ht_500wt_1156

My Dad's friend is able to get this computer brand new for $750 through his company.

http://www.bing.com/shopping/hp-probook-6460b-qy530us-14-led-notebook-core-i5-i5-2540m-2/p/CAE4B6AB81B013835005?q=hp+probook+6460b+i5+2.6+ghz&lpq=hp%20probook%206460b%20i5%202.6%20ghz&qpvt=hp+probook+6460b+i5+2.6+ghz&FORM=HURE

I was wondering if anyone would be interested in purchasing for $950 each.

I will only accept BTC through bit-pay or Western-Union. This might scream scam but this is just for my own protection. I own and operate a legitimate website hosting business - www.tizzytazzy.com, so running away with your money just isn't worth it to me.

Shipping would be free (anywhere around the world) and should arrive within one week of payment.

Everything sold on eBay is going to be cheaper than retail obviously, and again the specs aren't the same. My processor is faster.

Actually it's getting comparative. And your offer comes off sounding like not such a great deal. Flip 'em for $800 and you might find some buyers, looking to blatantly make a 30% mark off folks isn't that desirable. And the whole "Dad's Friend through work" thing? Tired, lame and pure bullshit. Have a good day scammer, not fools here.

Its not "getting comparative", I provided all legitimate links to what I'm selling and you can clearly see how much these laptops are going for. Failed attempts have shown very similar but not the same laptops. First one being a slower processor, and the second being that you can't upgrade to 16GB and 8GB is the max.

Bluntly claiming someone is a scammer is just outright bullying, kiddish and ignorant. Welcome to the bitcoin community.  ::)

I own and operate a legitimate business and have also operated and worked with ones in the past. If you need some rep I also have been a member of WebHostingTalk (#1 hosting forum) since 2005 and have rep there. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/member.php?u=129054

This is no bullshit, I'm even buying this laptop for myself and will show anyone the tracking # as proof if they want to be skeptical.

I agree, and have tried multiple times on this forum to stop people from slinging the term around with no provocation. I'm obviously ineffective :)

Then you'll know that it isn't really very good business practice to tell people how much of a mark-up you're putting on an item. Everyone knows merchants make a profit off items they sell, but you generally don't want to tell them how much it is right as you're trying to sell it to them.

I thought about this before posting, but sometimes I'm just too honest. This laptop retails for a lot more than I'm reselling and no one has yet to find a website or even eBay auction where you can find cheaper or even close to what I'm offering.

Your saving $500+ even with the markup.

You get a bigger hard drive, with a slighly slower processor for $200 less. Plus Tigerdirect has a mountain of rep, even if it is ebay. Not to mention a warranty (not completely sure on HP's warranty policy, but would you accept a DOA laptop for a warranty?)

Seriously, I think the majority of us have been offered the opportunity to buy cheap laptops through western union before... Usually from guys in nigeria...

I've seen a lot of people having no problems selling stuff here without getting flamed. While being honest is great, coming out and saying "Hey! I got this laptop new for $750. It's your for only 950!" Just sounds bad.

Edit: brain wasn't producing coherent sentences.

Just for the record, ferreting out scams is part of my RL world. When a duck stinks like this, I consider it a public service to point it out, and I typically do so in my harsh ass-holish manner, without concern for welcoming would be scammer to our world.

You don't want to read my stuff? There's a convenient ignore button right there under my name. You want to support this guy's sale? Buy a laptop and stop whining about social propriety. Just don't tell us when you get ripped off thru Western Union by this scammer- you bent over and invited him to have his way with you. No legitimate business person anywhere in the world uses Western Union as their preferred payment method. None, period.

He is totally right.

Let's see, what would be a better way to have approached this? Well it's your lucky day because I'm going to use my amazing deductive powers of common sense and tell you how to not come across as a scammer:

1-You have little/no feedback, so offer escrow, post pictures of the product you're going to sell next to a piece of paper with your forum username, the date, and "bitcointalk" on it.
2-Ideally, provide a link to heatware/ebay, showing positive feedback you've gathered.
3-If you're offering something this expensive, you're going to want to have a fairly good explanation of where they came from etc, with warranty details and the like, otherwise many will just assume scam/stolen.
4-If members point out the risk involved in dealing with you, find some way to mitigate that risk, rather than going around insulting people for refusing to hand over large quantities of irritrievable cash on the promise of cheap goods from an anonymous person with no feedback. You could, for example:
-Give out your phone number/other personally identifiable info via pm to interested buyers so they can contact you.
-Offer escrow (in fact there are many free escrow services right here on bitcointalk)
-Give links to your business website, so that people can look into it there.

Really people, suspicion towards 0-feedback anonymous bitcoin sales no more harms bitcoin trading than suspicion towards 0-feedback anonymous Western Union sales on ebay harms US dollar trading.

I've been watching this thread since it was first posted. I was going to comment on how I found the same or similar laptop on ebay for less, but decided against it because I didn't want to hurt tizzy's chance of selling. (And hey, that's ebay, it happens). Tizzy could turn out to be a good Bitcoin Merchant if trolls would stop trying to hinder sales. And finally, Tizzytazzy, I suggest you ignore the price trolls and follow shadow383's advice to establish some credibility. Also, Edit your topic title, You're only selling one model.

I've set up a Suggestion thread concerning the issue of Thread derailing  ;) https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=76663.0 I suggest those against this type of seller harassment put in their voice there.

Sorry if you can't use your system to its full capabilities. Virtual machines and RAMdisks take up lots of space in memory.
