Title: zero active connections to the bitcoin network Post by: Starving_Marvin on August 15, 2014, 12:36:16 AM I get zero active connections to the bitcoin network. I've tried rescanning and deleting peers.dat. Nothing seems to be helping. My wallet is two months behind.
Where can I find a list of working nodes?? I tried to make bitcoin.conf file and I copied this code: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Running_Bitcoin#Sample_Bitcoin.conf uncommented this: # Use as many addnode= settings as you like to connect to specific peers #addnode=69.164.218.197 #addnode=10.0.0.2:8333 and added many nodes but shit doesn't work. This is madness. How ever are "normal" people supposed to start using bitcoin if even just starting the client and accessing your funds needs advanced skills of whatever. Also tried to add nodes through the command line addnode "node" "add|remove|onetry" Attempts add or remove a node from the addnode list. Or try a connection to a node once. Arguments: 1. "node" (string, required) The node (see getpeerinfo for nodes) 2. "command" (string, required) 'add' to add a node to the list, 'remove' to remove a node from the list, 'onetry' to try a connection to the node once Examples: > bitcoin-cli addnode "192.168.0.6:8333" "onetry" > curl --user myusername --data-binary '{"jsonrpc": "1.0", "id":"curltest", "method": "addnode", "params": ["192.168.0.6:8333", "onetry"] }' -H 'content-type: text/plain;' http://127.0.0.1:8332/ (code -1) but gives errors!!! I thought about this too and maybe bitcoin just is not for "everyone". It is also still beta software. but gives errors!!! What kind of errors? Judging from your earlier comment about getting zero connections, I think the problem might be with your internet or router maybe? Title: Re: Bitcoin Core 0.9.2.1 has been released Post by: Starving_Marvin on August 28, 2014, 07:39:38 AM Turns out my ISP had suddenly blocked port 8333. The addnode worked with a nonstandard port. Other alt coin wallets work just fine so I guess they use a different port. In future, it seems like a good idea to add nodes that have non-standard ports for the bitcoin default node list, to prevent connection errors. Also this would makes it more difficult for ISP's to censor bitcoin traffic.
