Title: What would you do if you stumbled on access to the satoshin@gmx.com account?

Subject says it all. What would you do if you stumbled on access to the satoshin@gmx.com account?

Search for old wallet backups and fail to crack his 36 character passwords.

why did satoshi not delete all his emails before disappearing ? this has to be a inside job at gmx.

Well, that isn't a hard question. Add a donation address to his profile(s) and then just wait. I am pretty sure you could get 10BTC easily.

Why would he have backups in this account anyway?

The Bitcointalk account is disabled but sure, the Peer to peer foundation profile maybe. People would be suspicious though.

Maybe he did actually. Someone claimed to get an email forwarded from 2011 from when he disappeared. Maybe everything before that was deleted and the inbox was just full of spam and unanswered emails.

I would maybe delete everything, put a hard to crack password and setup an auto reply saying "I am not Satoshi Nakamoto"  ::)

Send a email to all the mayor news sites, telling them to deposit BTC into my account, for a exclusive interview.

Then I will be gone again. *Puff ^smile^

You would probably get a lot more then that. The first several blocks that were mined get a ton of begging spam. The DPR seized coins address that the US marshals "setup" got over 3 BTC from begging/protesting spam.

You would probably get a lot more of this kind of spam because people would know everyone is looking at your address. Then you need to consider the number of people who would actually be willing to donate bitcoin to "you" for unknown reasons (they would likely not realize that satoshi is said to have ~1 million BTC).

Close it again and forget the passwords

Why would he have backups in this account anyway?

Why not? He has over 1,000,000 bitcoins scattered across many different public addresses, and they weren't worth anything back when he mined them. If he was careless enough to let 11,000 emails sit in a dormant email account for years he could be careless enough to leave an old backup with a handful of bitcoin in it. I sure hope he doesn't use only one wallet file to hold all of those coins.

What will happen, in case the hacker gains access to all these million plus Bitcoins? He will surely try to sell most of them, which will crash the exchange rate of Bitcoin instantly. Right now the daily demand is less than BTC50,000. If 1 million coins are offloaded to the market, then I fear that the exchange rate can come down to $4 from $475 right now.  >:(

If he is alive I'm sure Satoshi has the bulk of his fortune in multiple paper wallets and various types of cold storage wallets locked up in very safe places.

I think somethings are best kept concealed for everybody's good
While I might be tempted to try to benefit personally, I would like to believe that I would do the right thing

I am not sure about that. Blockchain transaction data indicates that almost all of those blocks mined by Satoshi are remaining in those wallets, where they were put immediately after the mining. Back in 2009, paper wallets and all were unknown and I don't think he would have done anything other than keeping them online with a strong password.

Indeed, and with the most respect, leaving everything untouched.
